First snow for the season.

RE: First snow for the season.
Winter of 81-82 in eastern Iowa did me in for snow and cold. In January 82 we were living on my grandparents' farm in a house that was 100+ years old. I had a four year old and a baby under three months old. The kids and I were snowed in at the farm three weekends out of four. My husband was unable to get to our house after work those Fridays. The last weekend there was a blizzard that stacked snow up several feet deep and the wind chill plummeted to 70 below. At one point during this miserable month a couple friends came over on a snowmobile. One stayed with the kids while I rode with the other one across the fields to my parents' house so I could use their car to go get diapers, formula, and other necessities that I then had to hold onto during the return snowmobile ride to the house. That was enough for me. The next winter I spent in basic training and AIT and then off to southern Arizona. There was one other winter spent in Iowa along the way but it was a mild winter. Every other year I have been in the south where winter snows/ice are scarce and short-lived. I hate, hate, hate winter weather like I experienced in the first twenty some years of my life.

It's chilly and rainy here in north Texas today and I hate it. But I also keep in mind that these 40 degree temps with 30 degree wind chills are a hell of a lot better than 70 below with snow stacked higher than I am tall.

I think I missed fall - it happened sometime over the weekend. We go from sweltering heat to holy shit it's cold, wet, and windy in a matter of hours it seems.

All in all, it was a fucking Winter Wonderland.

I had a similar experience, but it involved roller blades.   Have not been back on roller blades for over 20  years.

I can ice skate and roller skate but roller blades - one attempt was enough for me to know they are death on wheels.

As a kid who sucked at every sport, and I do mean a kid(me) who could fake caring, I was bullied.

No snow in my neck of the woods yet. We get a mild to moderate amount, a few times during the season.
Slowly, but steadily increasing in amount and frequency every year, it seems.

I've lived in this region most of my life. Used to be years would go by in which we didn't get any snow or just the lightest dusting.
Not anymore. I didn't even own a pair of proper snow boots until about 9 years ago or so. The shit gets deep enough for them on a consistent basis now.
And it sucks.

Global warming, y'all!

Cold sucks. I cant do it, kids or not. I do know that worrying about disaster sucks too. I also know I, so far, have not had to live through Katrina or Florence.

Every year of climate change assholes on the right make me wonder if there is any state, hot or cold that is worthy of fleeing too.

Been through enough hurricanes to know category sucks for some more than others, but also know hurricanes are still enough of a short term "damned if you do damned if you dont" crap shoot like double dutch jump rope.

Pretty sure the escapee's of the California fires have every right to bitch too.

What in the world?
Cute kid, but her snow cream recipe is kind of wack.

Half and half, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract work better, kid.

Ill never forget the first white christmas to ever happen in florida on record..in 1989.

I was always going to leave the state, from that day. To some place with more of that snow shit. Imagine how hollow traditional (and contemporary) christmas imagery is to a person in the subtropics, lol.

The weather outside is frightful? Bitch it's 85degrees with clear skies and zero humidity. You can't even start a fire there, in the winter. The whole damned state will burn to the ground as dry as it gets then.

The first Christmas I remember, must have been four years old, I played outside in t-shirt and shorts.
