Agricultural labour is a miserable, demeaning, back-breaking job.  I got out of it as quickly as I could.

Washing dishes and pots and pans, making relish trays, shredding potatoes for hashed browns...all in a hot, sticky kitchen is what made me decide it wasn't going to be my career choice. But at 15/16 years old it was about the only choice after years of babysitting. Some of us look at where we are and decide we don't want to stay put.

Boru

Wow.

So nobody in congress ever promotes demonization of migrants willing to do work they don't want to do?

People in congress don't do farm work? NO WAY! NOW YOU TELL ME!

The GOP constantly vilifies migrants, the same people who do that farm work, kitchen work. And look who they have as their leader.

Of course CONGRESS  isn't supposed to do field or kitchen work. But they are not supposed to shit on those who do. And right now the GOP is doing just that.

I wasn't aware that Congress vilified migrants.  I'm aware that some in Congress don't think well of immigrants, but that's a different thing entirely.

If you're aware that people in congress aren't supposed to harvest strawberries, then you should understand why that woman's comment was stupid.

As I kid, I was delighted when Da hired migrant workers.  Nice people, and they took some of the load off.

I am sick of this.... Look you had a job you hated, you got another one. GOOD FOR YOU.

But that does not mean someone who stays in a job you don't want or like is unworthy.

I never thought my own dishwashing was demeaning. I did find the assholes who looked down on me to be assholes.

I really hate the "starter job" BULL FUCKING SHIT...... If it is something you don't like, I get that. But who the fuck do you think is dishwashing when the high school or college kids are in school? FYI I actually dishwashed for 7 years, and up until the new owner I enjoyed what I did. I was damned good at it. What I didn't enjoy was attitudes like yours right here.

All you said in this post is that the job sucked. It is a thankless job sure, but you got another job. Truth is if the asshole who fired me had not, I would have been there a lot longer.

It is "miserable" for the same reason coal miners in the late 1800s and 1900s got fucked. Because rich people made their conditions horrible.

It isn't that they don't take pride in what they do, THEY DO.

If you got out of it farm labor as quickly as you could, then again, SHUT YOUR FUCKING MOUTH, if you claim to know how hard it is.

There are still others who still do it, and have done it longer than you. DONT PISS ON THEM appreciate them.

Um, HUH?! When did I say any of the shit in your post? Have fun knocking the straw out of that man that has nothing AT ALL to do with the thrust of my post. The woman said something stupid about how some other person couldn't do her job like that even means anything. She couldn't do their job, whoopity-doo! Seriously, just do what you like and pull that stick out of your ass.

The only thing about ANY type of labor that is "demeaning" isn't the job itself, but the exploitation by others, and the attitude that they are less than if they don't move up.

Don't tell me to shut up.  You're not my REAL mum.

And, for the record, I've probably harvest more crops than you've eaten.

I said that ONE comment by ONE woman was stupid (and it was).  I said nothing about her personally, nothing about her work ethic.  How is that pissing on anyone?

No, she told the truth!

Just like I know the place I dishwashed at for 7 years, very few would have lasted at that position for 7 years.

Ever have a pile of pots and pans and  Mt Everest sized pile of dishes after an Easter Sunday? One might do that for a day, or a summer, but I did that for 7 years. I can't even begin to think how hard it is to work in a hot field for the same time.

Who do you think works in such positions  when teens and college kids are in school?

The restaurant where I worked was a supper club.  It was open at night...when we teens were available for the work.  The only adults were the cooks and the waitresses.  Yeah, there were no waiters.  Guys where I grew up did farm work.

HA HA HA  HA HA HA HA HAHAHAHHAHAHAH

Maybe in the stint you did. But in the real world adults are behind the counter, your hostess, and your dishwasher too.

I have worked at multiple restaurants, and every single time, we had every age at every position you could think of.

I worked at a Papa Johns and had store managers who had pimples and drivers who had wrinkles.

I am sure you have harvested more crops than I have. I have harvested absolutely ZERO,! Which is why it makes no sense to me why you'd object to what that migrant was saying.

I can admit I don't want do do what she did, or you claim to have done.

But for you to claim nobody should or does look down on that work is bullshit.
