I am in support of the choice of having an abortion up until the birth of the child. I am also in support of having to use euthanasia on newborn infants in "bad" cases, which is what I think the OP was meant to say with the phrase "after-birth abortion".

But I also think the ultimate solution to abortion is an expansion of planned parenthood (which includes the usage of birth control) and the "expanded" usage of IUDs in the nation and worldwide.
Unfortunately, I’ve had enough experience with the OP to suggest to me that I suspect that he might have actually meant full-on infanticide, either because he thinks the left would be open to that, or because, well, one of his last posts had him talking about “the shackles of morality,” he himself would be open to it.

Why IUDs?

It's one of the most effective methods of birth control out there.

Yikes. Well, that's not good at all.

RE: Abortion poll
This poll is hard for me to answer, because I'm split between three choices:

1)  Legal up to about 22 weeks (24 seems slightly pushing it to me), which I understand is a safe bet for the fetus not yet being sentient or having the capacity to feel pain.  Before that, I don't see that it's a person by any meaningful definition of the word.
2)  Legal up to about 2 years, which sounds barbaric, but until the State has a vested interest in a child (like paying for daycare and teachers), I'm not sure by what criteria a social contract has been established. This kind of killing is not my thing, but I'm also vegetarian, so. . . is a 2 year-old really more of a person than say a monkey or a well-trained dolphin?
3)  Legal always, at all ages, but only by the parents (I brought you into this world, and I'll take you out).  There are too many people getting in the damned way all the time, what do I care about a few honor killings for the irredeemables?

RE: Abortion poll
From the polls that I've seen, 90% of atheists are prochoice; 75% are opposed to the death penalty.

RE: Abortion poll
Come on, the question should have been "Have you had an abortion yet?" That would have been so appropriate.
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"
