I would go with a ps4. Right now is the perfect time to buy because there are good deals out there that include games. Media Molecule just released Dreams which looks fun and it is very creative gameplay. Waiting 'till November for a ps5 would be silly and not let your kid get into the action for months. I bought a Wii, it was great and I had a blast so when the WiiU came out I bought it too and it mostly just sits collecting dust next to my PS3 and then my PS4. Anyway I'm a PS fan since the original PS. I've had most of the nintendo consoles except the gamecube and have been happy with them. Right now you really couldn't go wrong unless you bought an X-box.
