Gym Talk

RE: Gym Talk
I think you should do it, Shell! I really do believe people should do something they suck at, or something that is new or uncomfortable. When I first got into Jiu-jitsu I was terrible, and it was embarrassing, and I sweated way more than everyone else and was just, in general, the new guy who sucked, LOL. But over time, I built a rapport with other people in the class, and got better at Jiu-jitsu, and the feeling of seeing that improvement in myself was awesome!

Also, as a writer, I'm a bit of a loner by nature, so I often have to force myself to get out and socialize, and group fitness activities are a great way to do that, in my opinion.

Anyone else trying something new, want to talk about a favorite workout, etc.?

The only heavy lifting I do is from my beer mug to my lips. FYI, I am a shining example of health.

So in other words, ignore me.

It’s never too late to start, mate.

I did it last week. It wasn't easy at all, but I did okay. I've been doing yoga for years, so that helped. Definitely more cardio than yoga, and I felt a few muscles I haven't felt in a fucking age, so that was good. I'm going to keep it up.

RE: Gym Talk
When I worked out, I mostly did dumbells for arm exercises, as well as some stuff for my calves and lower back. For some reason, my calf muscles have never been very strong, so after a long days work I often pull a muscle after resting. It hurts like hell.

RE: Gym Talk
From my limited experience, that could be a matter of stretching out the backs of your legs.

RE: Gym Talk
Possibly. I've been told that walking helps with it, but it doesn't do as much as I'd like. I don't remember having that problem when I was working at a job that required standing a lot, so I guess sitting around a lot more weakens the muscles.

Very much. It also tightens the back of the leg. I bet it's harder for you to touch your toes now than it was then too. I just know from my own personal experience that I have to stretch out the back of my legs a lot.

Tried Boxing, Muay Thai, or Krav Maga?

Glad you kept up with the fitness thing and are looking to mix things up a bit.

I have long arms, so it's not too hard, but maybe if I did some regular toe stretches, that would help too.
