Gym Talk

RE: Gym Talk
Yeah, a bad diet works against you. A good diet makes exercise less necessary. When I first went to the gym, I was exercising, but hadn't changed my diet. I didn't start seeing results until one of the trainers told me to stop eating hot pockets and swiss cake rolls, and start eating white meat and salads.

That's awesome! I'm a writer and have a tendency to isolate... which is terrible for you if you're already depressed. Group activities do help combat that, for me personally. And hell, yoga...? Talk about guts. I'm 6'3", and pretty flexible, but I'd look like such a moron trying to do all those crazy poses LOL.

You been doing like cross-fit class or a group weightlifting thing or something?

My gym does yoga, but it's at 8:00 am, and I don't get up and go that early unless I really have to.

I'm a writer also. I'm at home working 80% of the time, roughly. My mental health suffers if I give in to my instinct to stay home and only contact a few people too. It's good to get out, but I still tend not to socialize much in these group classes.

I don't do crossfit. I weight lift on my own in the gym, usually with my husband. I'm considering a spin class, but it looks really peppy. I'm not peppy.

Right? The best classes at my gym are early, so I miss them. Fuckers.

Ah I see. And yeah... I'm one of those people who can sometimes be too cynical to take myself seriously if I was taking like a dance class or something... which, part of that is probably me just not wanting to dance in front of people LOL. Sometimes it's good to get out of your comfort zone though. Maybe spin class isn't for you... ever consider some form of self-defense like kickboxing or Jiu-jitsu?

RE: Gym Talk
I've done kickboxing. The only reason I'm not doing it now is because the classes at my gym are too early for me. I think the next thing I'm going to try is Pound. It looks kind of stupid, but hard. My aunt loves it, so I'll probably do it with her. She'll make it fun for me. She's a riot.

one of the benefits in living in a more urban environ is more options for classes and group activities. I'd love to take a dancing class with my wife or something to get me geared up and establish a base of "able to have the energy to do activities without caffeine" to work from. Alas, I am to rural for options.
"There ought to be a term that would designate those who actually follow the teachings of Jesus, since the word 'Christian' has been largely divorced from those teachings, and so polluted by fundamentalists that it has come to connote their polar opposite: intolerance, vindictive hatred, and bigotry." -- Philip Stater, Huffington Post

Here's the best song for workout (skip first 14 seconds)

teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

RE: Gym Talk
There's a physical therapy section in our gym, and you can get massages there. Unfortunately it doesn't come free with membership, otherwise I'd be getting it at the end of every week, to reward myself for doing a lot that week. Lord knows I get sore after working out all week.
