My husband's cousin is in a bad way with COVID and pneumonia. His wife probably has it too as it's not been tested.
Cousin is a pretty healthy guy. His doctor put off having him come in for testing. He finally ended up at an urgent care clinic that gave him a Zpac and a steroid and sent him home...with the above diagnosis. He's in South Carolina. Word is that you can only get into an emergency room there via ambulance that may take around three hours to pick you up and then you may lay in the ambulance in the parking lot for another three hours. I was worried before about my daughter and grandkids out there in the same county. More concerned now. I have seen too many photos of people I know from there who are carrying on like there's no threat. Large gatherings of unmasked people and dining in restaurants that don't look limited as far as capacity goes. “If you are the smartest person in the room, then you are in the wrong room.” — Confucius
The trouble with elective restrictions, either de jure or de facto, is that there's pretty much always going to be at least some portion of owners who have an existential case to remain open and busy - and a great many of those owners will be in communities in a similar predicament.
They die for the dow and require their employees to charge that pillbox and put their customers in that line of fire, in the larger sense, because it's what they've always done, a relationship that they have always been locked into and upon which their business was premised.

Update on husband's cousin...he's in ICU now. Husband is calling for an update.
This is hard on my husband as he was mostly raised by his great grandmother as was the cousin (who is actually a second cousin so it was his grandmother). Its hard to watch a brother suffer. I hope he gets better.

The cousin is being treated with Remdesivir and has low oxygen levels that they can't seem to get stabilized. Since he's already been sick at least a week, I am not surprised by this.
