It's plain to see that the "jet set," their friends, colleagues and families are in the crosshairs - skiing holidays in Italy what what? That logic would perfectly well explain the seemingly unlikely nature of the Boris coming acropper like this, at least to a substantial degree. You don't get much more jet set than him and his palls.

I've sais it before and I'll say it again - there's been a 10 fold increase in air travel out of China since the time of the 2003 SARS epidemic (NOT pandemic). There has doubtless been a large increase in air travel globally in general too over that period. One reason Italy has it so bad is due to skiing season, it has been suggested, for example, and for a time Switzerland had the highest per capita infection rate in the world too. As if global warming weren't enough of a reason to stop doing an impression of the demise of Icarus, now we have SARS2/3/n.

Oregon's doing ok, sent several ventilators to NY too. I'm slowly going insane without interaction or much outside time, but in the long run I guess that's how we all survive.

Yeah, going back to the original stream, you'll notice that for each country listed, there are three numbers: The total confirmed cases, the total dead, and the total recovered:
I'd think that the time would be when you subtract the dead and recovered from the confirmed cases, and the resulting number is a hell of a lot lower than the total confirmed cases. 

I get the impression that the UK isn't publishing the number of recovered for some reason. It doesn't seem to have changed for quite a while...

Tallying the active cases in each of the health boards the UK active cases currently are; 46,430

Which does make it look like a worryingly low rate of recovery...

I am curious to see what may be the long-term effects. Will people who had moderate cases have diminished lung function? Will getting it once make you less likely to get it again?

So many questions and so few answers.

It's pretty obvious that the world wasn't prepared for something like this. I think we thought most of the world was advanced enough to not have a plaque sweep the globe that we have no proven treatment or defense for.

Britain's low recovery rate might be an artifact of the testing; we're only testing hospitalised cases ATM. So the mild cases aren't showing up.

If you go onto a ventilator there's about a 50% survival rate overall.
If your blood oxygen level drops there's a possibility of organ damage including a 25% rate of kidney failure, so people on ventilators often need blood scrubbers, and if they survive they'll be looking at going on a waiting list for transplant.

I haven't heard anything regarding long term effects for mild cases as yet.

Good news on the home front: for the first time since this started, the number of people here who have recovered has outpaced the number of new infections.
