All persons residing in Mississippi must immediately home-isolate on first knowledge of infection
with COVID-19.  

All persons, including fully vaccinated individuals, infected with COVID-19 must remain in the
home or other appropriate residential location for 10 days from onset of illness (or 10 days from
the date of a positive test for those who are asymptomatic).  A negative test for COVID-19 is not
required to end isolation at the end of 10 days, but you must be fever free for at least 24 hours with
improvement of other symptoms.  Mississippi K-12 schools are required to exclude all students
and  faculty  diagnosed  with  COVID-19  from  the  school  setting  during  the  isolation  period  (as
above).

The failure or refusal to obey the lawful order of a health officer is, at a minimum, a misdemeanor
punishable  by  a  fine  of  $500.00  (41-3-59)  or  imprisonment  for  six  months  or  both.    If  a  life-
threatening disease is involved, failure or refusal to obey the lawful order of a health officer is a
felony, punishable by a fine of up to $5,000.00 or imprisonment for up to five years or both (41-
23-2).

Researchers working toward one vaccine for many variants

Two separate research teams last week reported on laboratory tests of monoclonal antibodies that appear to protect against a broad range of COVID-19 virus variants. One study, published on Wednesday in The New England Journal of Medicine, identified "high-level, broad-spectrum" antibodies in blood samples from survivors of the original SARS outbreak in 2003 who recently received the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine against SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19. In test tube experiments, some of the SARS survivors' antibodies induced by the vaccine could neutralize not only all of the current SARS-CoV-2 variants of concern, but also five viruses that have been identified in bats and pangolins and that have the potential to cause human infection. In a separate study, published on Thursday in the journal Immunity, another research team describes an antibody that was highly protective at low doses against a wide range of COVID-19-causing variants in mice.

This summer is like deja vu all over again.

It's beginning to look the same at the new facility where I am working.

Three employees tested positive, only one resident tested positive at least.

CNAs still don't want to work: half the place is employed with facility aides while the other half has to be brought in by agency. On overnights, I'm usually the only facility employee while the others are agency, and the good thing about this facility is that it is willing to bring in agency to ensure the residents are properly cared for. However, agency has been getting somewhat sparse at my facility because it doesn't pay as much as other facilities and the aides aren't wanting to put up with the resident behavior. CNAs aren't as willing to be mistreated as is often required by facilities, and I don't blame them. I don't put up with it either, which is why I might not be here much longer.

Even I've been reticent to continue working here, but I'll give the place a few more months of my time before I make a formal decision.

Schools requiring masks makes little sense. Children becoming seriously ill from COVID-19 almost never happens. Children spreading COVID-19 to adults is also very rare. And even if it were not, the evidence of masks working in real-world settings is very thin. Nearly all randomized control clinical trials about effects of general mask wearing on COVID-19 found either no effect or a negative effect. The largest one, the Danish Study, found no effect. It is not even clear whether masks which are mostly worn work against COVID-19 in laboratory settings. Most masks that people wear cannot stop airborne viruses, they can only stop droplets. And it is not clear whether COVID-19 is mostly spread by droplets, or perhaps mostly using viruses freely floating in the air, like measles spreads. The MIT study suggests COVID-19 mostly spreads via airborne spread, and not via droplets. If so, the entire premise of most non-pharmaceutical-interventions such as staying six feet away from others and cloth mask wearing is wrong. But the science of COVID-19 has become so politicized it is impossible to have reasonable discussion about those things.
