The trains run on time.

RE: The trains run on time.
Indeed M Luther would be renaissance rather than medieval.
Seriously mate either post a source for your claim or retract. Trying to pass a false claim because of your ego wouldn't do anyone any favours.

Do you know that Obama also praised Cuba? He said the same things Sanders did but because it's Obama nobody on the Democratic side cared. In fact, Whoopi Golbrg even defended Obama for the exact same comments she attacked Sanders for, once again declaring that she is a hypocrite.

So did Obama "blow it" too?

The chief difference being Obama wasn't a democratic socialist, so people didn't already equate him with 5 year plans, gulags, and the ravening Red Horde.

Remember, Mussolini made ONE train run on time, the one that was taking him to Rome to see Victor Emmanuel and get his blessing to form a government.

Hitler made all the trains run on time. See Allied bombing schedules for exceptions.

Bernie was not praising Castro. He made a very bad argument yes, but he was not praising him. He was arguing that we can do many of the same things without becoming an authoritarian state. Just like many of our European allies have far better social safety nets and better wages for workers.  Bernie fucked up making the argument like he did, yes, but he was not praising Castro.

Obama wasn't praising Castro because he liked authoritarians, but just like when a bad kid changes their tune, you are trying to push them in a better direction.

And Reagan did the same thing with Gorbachev. Was firm when he had to be, and challenged him to do the right thing.

That is not the same as what Trump does, whom literally wants to be an authoritarian himself.

That is a cogent, well-reasoned, articulate position. Now...

Do you have a source to support your claim that the medieval Church promoted literacy?

^^^^ But again, not to get society to think for themselves, but to gain more club members. Although it is argued today by their modern church that was the case.  Luther wanted the public to read so they could follow God better.

Martin Luther was not medieval. He was not alive during the Middle Ages. He was a Renaissance figure. You’ve been told this twice already.

Just admit you don’t have a source for your silly claim.

Omg......

If I used medieval I am sorry. I merely meant at the time he lived, his motives for spreading literacy are not what his apologists claim. If you don't like my link, say that, but I did give you a source.

FYI It is a very common tactic in the world, where apologists look back in history and say, "This person contributed this", and they are not wrong. But our labels are not how change happens. Our species evolution drives us to try to make sense of life. That is not in a label, that is in our evolutionary curiosity.

Humans of every religion use past events and historical figures to say, "See my religion is correct". That argument is not a patent owned by one religion.

The point is to debunk the false argument that because Bernie argued Castro's literacy program was a good thing, in the same way. Literacy is a good thing, but it doesn't make Castro a good person.

Martin spreading the idea of literacy didn't make society think for themselves, anymore than Castro's literacy program made Cuba a free society. The world was still a far more religious superstitious place in Martin's time regardless. You cannot compare anything he did or said as being equal to our modern understanding of a open western society today.

Literacy growing in Martin's time did cause a split between churches, but it didn't get most to question religion altogether.
