[Serious] Economy Class Economy

Economy Class Economy
Guys, I think we need this separate thread to discuss what's coming.
I'm hearing some horrific shit going on all over the world but especially in the US.

You know this is serious when the mobsters in Vegas can't keep their doors open!
Now Bars? Restaurants? Gyms? Cinemas? Qantas just grounded 90% of its fleet and asked 20,000 people to stay home! WTF!

Is anyone here affected economically yet?

At work.

Must admit to being a tad confused over the various points I the OP's post.

Then again, am also just a simple foreigner who couldn't give two tosses about some one else's Prime Minister. Tongue

Keep the economy going! Let's have none of these closures - keep all businesses open.....

So we lose a buncha old people.. Big deal, right?

2 percent mortality is a small price to pay to keep our minimum wage jobs afloat!...

It's a pickle for sure, you can shut this stuff down but for how long? Putting people out of work who live pay check to pay check, especially for a long period of time can turn ugly real fast. Rent, Mortgage, and Utilities still have to be paid as far as I know, a lot of people can't afford to just stay home from work for weeks on end and not just minimum wage workers.

Then there's the aftermath.  A lot of the jobs people are being asked to stay home from may not even be there post-corona.  Not only do a lot of people live payday-to-payday, but a lot of small businesses operate their cash flow month-to-month.  If (as has been speculated) this goes on until August, a fair number of these businesses aren't going to survive and *poof* go the jobs.

The long-term damage is not so likely to be from illness and death as it is from enforced shutdowns and bankruptcies.

Six times actually, and the best estimate of his current worth is ($359 million).
