Palm Sunday Traditions

RE: Palm Sunday Traditions
The whole palm thing seems really strange when you're in...say...florida. They're just handing out yard waste.

Leave it to the church to find every possible way to fleece their parishioners.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

I remember the nuns handing out the palm crosses on the Friday at school... and that was it, forgot about it till we went back to school on Monday.

The only thing I remember about Palm Sunday is that the palms are supposed to be burned the next year to make the ashes for Ash Wednesday.

Some of my friends' houses would have the palms hung on the wall usually near, or on, some religious picture...like the Sacred Heart or Christ on the cross.

Here those old palm  things were stored under the roof - as a protection against lightning.
Already as a child  I was skeptical about it.

And I thought: If a flash of lighning strikes our house, the fire will burn all the better because of those old and dry palm things!

During my last year in Uni my housemate nailed one to the wall and declared that the house was 'clean'...
He never used any cleaning materials or bin bags during the entire year. The lower floor wound up looking like landfill...
