The Death Penalty - are you for or against it and why?

RE: The Death Penalty - are you for or against it and why?
The Death Penalty should always be reserved for the most heinous of crimes against humanity with an abundance of evidence to prosecute behind it.

For example, a serial murderer, caught in the act of a killing spree, some dozen or so victims' bodies/remain beneath their houses.

Such parasites cannot be allowed to live among us; they've forfeited their human rights, the right to live, when they gleefully and intentionally take away other people's lives.

I pispise the idea of an innocent being murdered by the state...not to mention the hypocrisy of the state saying "You shouldnt kill. Killing is bad. If you kill then we will kill you." Yeah, thats hypocritical.

I understand what you're saying, but then you also have to consider that the state says "You shouldn't imprison someone in a cage. Imprisoning someone in a cage is bad. If you imprison someone in a cage, we will imprison you in a cage." Is that also hypocritical?

I agree. This is also hypocritical.

So far I am leaning in the direction of supporting the death penalty, but I really, REALLY dont like it.

If that's true, then we can't ever punish anyone for anything without being hypocritical.

I realize this. Absurdities like this often rear their heads when the human condition is in the mix. Of course I am for jailing law breakers, but that doesnt take away from the fact that the concept is contradictory and ultimately absurd. Same thing with the absurdity of "killing people is bad and we will kill you for it." This is what we as humans have no choice but to face, and because of it we will never reach a consensus of what is right or wrong in many cases and we are doomed to bicker like this perpetually never to find the perfect government, or the meaning of life.

Just so that you know I have been having this inner discussion with myself for several years and still could not make a choice. I think I need to make a choice, add everything up and flat out say I support the death penalty, but I find it disgusting! As long as it is done rarely with ample evidence backing it up for heinous crimes then I will go ahead and vote "I support it".

I must say that I agree with your sentiments here. I would prefer that the death penalty never be used. But the problem is that the death penalty is employed all the time.... by criminals! When criminals stop employing the death penalty we can get rid of it also.

Absolute Opposed, honestly i'm disgusted by the fact that many people in here support, in my opinion support state sponsored murder is the same as being a murderer, or at least accomplice to murder, death penalty is a big no to me, there is no condition we're a person should forfeit of their right to live.

I actually think adrian prison system is the best, make them work for their food, however i'm not going to defend giving them no food, just give them food that is inhumanly disgusting(so disgusting it could be considered torture) that is barely eatable until they start work for their food.

Also death penalty is not a punishment, it just let's them escape without being actually punished

But if we keep heinous murderers in torturous prison living conditions for a life sentence, it really has to BE a life sentence. They can never get out, they can never appeal, they can forget about any faint hope clause or chance of parole. They're gonna rot there until they die.

I've heard of too many murderers who weasel their way out somehow. My friend's older sister was murdered by a guy who got out early, she was shot in the head and robbed while jogging one morning. Society absolutely needs to protect itself from people like this.

Yes of course

edit:Except in the condition that their are truly, and absolutely(ABSOLUTELY) truly sorry, and they will never do it again, they still should get incredibly long prison sentences, but have a opportunity for Redemption.

I always defend a person chance for Redemption

Well, I support it, but only in a drastically revised form: Namely, it would be voluntary, and only people who will be spending the rest of their lives in prison or third (or more) time offenders. And, of course, there'd be counseling to make sure that the prisoner really wants to die, and of course, the actual methods would be as painless as possible.
