I am an atheist but I am also of the rather odd opinion that atheists are less moral than theists ... even though I am also an atheist.

It's only in one sense though.

There's a sense in which atheists/theists are equally moral (in that they are equally amoral because humans are amoral).

But there's a sense in which theists are more moral than atheists. And I say this as an atheist.

That sense is that although theists may do good things, and avoid doing bad things, for dubious reasons, such as the threat of hell or the reward of Heaven, it still makes them better people despite the motivation being based on a delusion.

Kind wishes but no prayers!

I say we circulate a petition to stamp out and abolish redundancy.

And, yeah, welcome to the newb.

Atheists may be described as amoral as we don't accept the morality of religion.

Theists should be described as immoral as they do accept the morality of their religion, and then invent reasons why that morality doesn't apply to them personally.

RE: Greetings
Welcome. Are you claiming that theists are more moral because they are likely to behave as though God (or a god) is watching them?
I'm not anti-Christian. I'm anti-stupid.

RE: Greetings
mor·al
/ˈmôrəl/

adjective

  1. 1.
concerned with the principles of right and wrong behavior and the goodness or badness of human character.

  2. 2.
holding or manifesting high principles for proper conduct.

Theists may do things that are more likely to be considered 'right', or they may less often do things considered 'wrong', because of the fear of hell/god/etc. Not because they themselves prefer to do the right thing ('proper conduct') based on the principle of it being right. There's a difference. So while they may be perceived as being more moral, if we think that intentions and motivation for an action is important, then nope, your argument doesn't exactly impress.

Welcome to the forums Smile

Also I checked the results for the poll and I'm amused by the fact that you voted for the third option yourself...

I've noticed humans can be dicks, more often than not. God should do something about that.

Welcome.

We usually have drinks on a Friday night to welcome new members, but because if social distancing I'll drink them all myself.

Now.

Cheersh!

Hello.

Your opinion is conditional and depends on what the god/religion is motivating (or not motivating) the theist to do.

Not all of religion/religious do good or stop bad. Not all that claim theism practice the programming.
