The problem with Royalty ( or why I'm a Republican )

The problem with Royalty ( or why I'm a Republican )
How's this for irony?
Australian writer Harry Nicolaides has been jailed for 3 years by a Thai court because his book " Versimilitude " was held to be insulting to the Thai Royal Family.
The presiding judge said passages " suggested there was abuse of Royal power ".
You just couldn't script it!
( must get hold of the book! )

Nonsense. A democracy with monarchs is no worse or better.

A democracy has no purpose for monarchs. They are a waste of space and money.

I used the phrase "only way to go" as an allusion to my preference to how the government of America works. I didn't mean it was literally the only working system of government. I just think it is the best.

I disagree. The UK monarchy holds up the class structure and is reactionary.
In essence, all monarchies are anathema to the idea of equality.

The UK monarchy also serves no purpose other than to absolve parliament so a new one can be elected. Really it should just be written in the constitution and the process would be a lot easier. I'd much prefer a head of state that actually had their arse on the line rather than on a throne with no possibility of being held responsible for their actions.

The point is that all the royals have to do to keep their privileged position is procreate.
The hereditary principle is archaic.
The advantage of a republic is that you get to elect AND SACK the elected head of state.
