That would just hurt the Chinese and the vendors that sell fireworks, so mostly churches. Where do you think all those fireworks come from?

 I don’t think the world’s largest economy by some margin on purchase power parity basis would be hurting for the want of revenue from some small portion of its normal annual firework sales.

A lot of places cut back on celebrations for the 4th several years ago citing the expense of putting on big fireworks displays.

The fourth is still going to be a time of BBQs, pool parties, and trips to the beach. As with most holidays, the actual meaning of the holiday has been diminished and replaced with getting a day off work and an excuse to get drunk. Explosions are just a bonus.
