4th of more stupidity!
June 30, 2020 at 2:01 pm
(This post was last modified: June 30, 2020 at 2:02 pm by Brian37.)
I multitask, so most of the time I am listening to the news in passing on my TV while posting, so I don't catch details.
But just today, I heard some right wing politician bitch about the closing of beaches on the 4th. This is the same bullshit logic that sank the Titanic, "What could go wrong, we can't disturb the passenger's good time."
I am so fucking sick of this shit. It isn't about ruining anything, anymore than Nadar wanted to end the auto industry for merely shouting they could do better.
Large crowds right now, until we find a vaccine is a bad idea. FUCK one damned day. I love America too, and part of our existence is that we have learned to adapt.

*shrug* Let him (or her) bitch about it, the beaches will still be closed. In all likelihood, the politician in question knows that closing beaches is a good idea, this is just election year pandering.

The 4th of July is a huge beach day. It's actually a huge beach week. A lot of the hospitality industry relies on the time from Memorial Day to Labor Day with the 4th being huge for their chance of stay out of the red for the season. I can understand the concerns economically because this is similar to having a hurricane come through during those peak times in the summer and chasing tourists away.
There's also a lot of 'you are not the boss of me' going on with people. They don't like to be told what they can't do.
Ever since Memorial Day we have seen numbers go up for COVID cases.
No matter which side a government leader is on with regard to opening or closing things they are going to have half the people pissed at them. They need to realize that and mandate closures to protect people from other people. The other choice will kill off their constituents. We have certainly proven that as a nation we are not putting looking out for others on the top of our priority list.
At this point I have to wonder if they are actually looking at the economics of things. If you leave everything open and thousands get sick and maybe die, they aren't going to be contributing to the economy except for trying to pay off huge medical/funeral bills.
Things should be locked down again so we can start over. Again, we are closing the barn door after the horse is long gone.

What?
"Things should be locked down again"
YES, I AGREE!
Not sure what you are objecting to. My point is Trump didn't give a fuck, the GOP rushed it, and this is where we are at now unfortunately.

Hopefully Turtleman McConnell sporting a mask and urging others to do the same is the start of seeing the tide turn among the country's leaders.
I didn't think I would see McConnell go against Trump.

I never go to a river, lake, or ocean on one of the 3 summer holidays unless it's private property. This year is leisure as usual.
Funny there is no tariff on fireworks.

Passed a sign yesterday saying "Fireworks are illegal". Came back by later in the day to see that it was on fire. Vox populi.
