The same way you do with it. You're having a conversation with a bunch of human beings who live in the same world that you do. Not aliens from another dimension.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I didn't mean it that way. How do you explain why things happen without bringing God into it.
so far I've got that things happen because things happen and the obvious cause and effect and something about determinism which I'm gonna look up later.

Exactly. A few days ago, I nicked my thumb. If I hadn’t been holding a chisel, it probably wouldn’t have happened. If I hadn’t been in my workshop, I wouldn’t have been holding the chisel. If I wasn’t a luthier, I wouldn’t have been in the shop. If I hadn’t been a musician, I wouldn’t have become a luthier. If my godfather hadn’t got me interested in music, I wouldn’t have become a musician. If my father hadn’t gone to school in Keady, I wouldn’t have had that godfather.

So, the reason I nicked my thumb is that Da went to school in Keady.

To be fair, you didn’t ask the question very well.

idk. like, why did JFK die?
Because a wingnut shot him inna head.

Surely somebody has explained the birds and the bees to you? Apparently not.

Because you get to bury the beefy bayonet in the fragrant woman's cave. Do you somehow think that in that "oh god" moment of orgasm that the parents decide exactly all of the potential childs life? That is absurd.

That is not our fault.

Here is the deal. Next month, my eldest will be an adult. At that point, he will be appointed executor of my will. Would that be different if he was a she? Nope. That is based on ability, not gender.

You can barnstorm all you like about how things could be different.

But you would be better served by dealing with how things are.

The same way that you do with god.  Asking the same question won't get you a different answer.

The same way that any of us would.  Wink

Honestly think about what you're asking us.  Let's say that you apprehend the world through teleology - which is to say that you explain an event by the purpose it serves rather than the cause by which it arises.  God's plan, the ultimate purpose.  Well, purpose and teleology aren't restricted to gods.  Other people, who don't believe in gods, might also find reason and use in explaining things by referring to their purpose.  Why is there a hammer here?  Because I intend to strike a nail.  Why do fish have gills?  To breathe. You might notice that you can understand these explanations, and see nothing obviously wrong with them. They don't refer to any gods.

How often, if you really worked it out, do you refer to god in your own life? I'd be willing to bet that the difference between yourself and an atheist, with respect to your question, is small to non-existent. We may as well ask you how you do x without believing in the aztec gods - and you'd instantly grasp the problem that you're facing here, with us.

1. I didn't blame you for anything
2. I'm not disconnected from reality, I accept the way things are. I just like to ponder about the why they are the way they are. Theres nothing wrong with that. wth is the point of philosophy??

Do you open jars in a particularly christian way? Do you make a ham and cheese in a particularly christian way? Do you wipe your nose in a christian way? Do you put the spoon in your mouth to feed yourself in a christian way? Do you notice the temperature in a christian way?

No? Neither do I. We also rationalize and explain things in the same ways. I don't need a god to do that anymore than you do. The only difference is that you believe a god exists, and I do not.
