Dr. King and those that followed him were masters of calm restraint. They would despise looters.

I think it’s probably a bit if both. King clearly and strongly disapproved of riots, but he also was appalled about how little had been done to address the underlying causes of riots.

You seemed to have some ideas about that yourself...?
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

No, I DON'T know what he would think today. His views on riots and why they happen is a matter of historical record.  See, there's these things called 'films' and some of them feature Dr. King saying what he thought.

This one will take less than three minutes of your time, and I suggest you watch the whole thing.

The outcome of mob rule...

BULLSHIT!

You still don't get it. Civil unrest isn't a result of loving destruction, but a reaction to abuse. Instead of lying to yourself to justify your own bias, try understanding the long term history of inequity in economics and justice. Then learn from it and address the conditions. Humans in our entire species history will always have civil unrest when a segment of that population is abused. It does no good to bitch after the fact. Long term conditions matter.

FYI they are not supporting looting. They are supporting the idea of innocent until proven guilty of the individual. I am pretty sure they are talking about people as to which were arrested with no probable cause. I am so sick of shit like this trying to equate looters with protestors.

We live in a country where a rich white kid drove drunk, killed 4 people and got a slap on the wrist. Yet we also live in a country where a black man gets shot with his little daughter in the back seat merely for merely trying to reach for his legal gun permit. We live in a country where a black EMT who got shot murdered by police because of a wrong address. We live in a country where a black man has a police officer kneel on his neck for nearly 9 minutes.

Please tell everyone here how long black and brown people should keep putting up with this?

MLK most certainly preached non violence. But if you watch this CBS clip, he is also basically saying that most blacks won't lean to violence, but also in that white people need to listen. He is basically saying the same thing I am. BLM is also saying the same thing. MLK didn't like violence, but he also understood the natural reaction to abuse. He also says in this clip that it is up to white people to listen.

MLK, "A riot is the language of the unheard.".  He's not condoning anything by saying that. He is merely saying unless you understand conditions and address them, you can expect those things to happen. Just like we know how hurricanes form doesn't mean you want them affecting you.

As I said - Dr King was a master of restraint. It was a cornerstone of his teachings. I think it is safe to say he would be appalled with rioting cunts.

And I think he would say blacks have made HUGE inroads in society.

You never lived with "whites only" drinking fountains. I did. I have lived long enough to go from "it will never happen" to seeing the US get a black man as president (and voted for him).

Sure - more needs to be done. But riots are going to put things back - not forward.

He seemed to possess nuance, empathy, and understanding of the issue that escapes you.

You find it appalling. He saw it as inevitable and understandable, as well as destructive and self defeating. Rioters, in any case, are unlikely to hold the same positions as mlk. Ultimately, people may be tired of waiting for the day when being The Good One grants equality. There are people who see this entire argument to be as disingenuous as that promise turned out to be.

OLB it isn't as simple as saying, "We don't have separate bathrooms or lunch counters. water fountains, what is your problem?"

There still is economic and justice inequality and it is still based unfortunately on skin color. Blacks are still far more likely, for example, to get turned down on a loan. Far more likely to get passed over for a higher position on a job. Not to mention far more likely to be fined or punished more harshly  for a similar crime, even traffic tickets. It isn't just about "rioting" over police interactions. MLK clearly states in both clips that white people need to listen, and hear and understand.

i am white. I fully accept that I don't have to worry about being viewed as suspect solely based on my skin color. I also accept that while I worked low wage jobs my entire life, my late mother who was also white, didn't have to worry about having "the talk" black parents have to have with their kids. When I got pulled over by police, I didn't have to worry about them shooting me.

The inequity exists OLB, so instead of trying to ignore an uncomfortable truth, face it, accept it, learn from it.

Fuck you basement boy....

I have no problem with black people. I served with, lived with, rode with and partied with hundreds. I have good neighbors that are black.

My problem is with liberal mama's boys like you who think they know what a black man wants - more than the black man himself....
