History and short term memory.

RE: History and short term memory.
Major, and minor, events fade over time as more events occur and push the older ones back.

There is also the aspect of how much an event influenced your life directly and even your age at the time it happened.

There isn't going to be 24/7 on all the channels of an event from 19 years ago. There will be plenty to see though if you want to. I am pretty certain you could watch coverage for 24 hours today if that is what you want to do.

Short term memory is forgetting what happened in the short term...hence the name.

19 years doesn't fit as "short-term".

As usual you have gotten stuck on the wrong thing. Have a beer Brian, throw the empty on the floor and crack open another one. You are all jacked up with no place to go again.

Forgetting is a feature, not a bug. This is as true of our history and our day to day planning as it is in any other context. It's why we're still here, not the thing that's going to get us.

Speaking of still being here, and being shortsighted, the lesson of history must be that shortsighted creatures like us do well - or....no?
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

I read it before I posted.

Where in your book of rules does it state that people can't post similar/same thoughts?

It happens all the time.  And you can fuck off.

Calling me grandma is some sort of insult?  In what world.  My children have children.  That makes me a grandmother.

All the rest of your rambling isn't worth addressing...much like the rest of your posts.

The point in my OP is that humans no matter what side they are on, have  tendency to focus on the short term, and are tribal.

It is sad and scary, that today, that we have an orange turd, using the exact same tactics of scapegoating, vilification, and blind loyalty that lead to the horrors of things like Pearl Harbor and the Holocaust.

Except that the holocaust did happen. One of the things that allowed it to happen was that no one could imagine it occurring in the first place. Sure, massacres and ethnic cleansing weren't new, but organised slaughter on an industrial, international scale was horrifyingly new. The US using atomic bombs was similar. In both cases, the terrifying reality of both acts helped to ensure they weren't repeated. But we absolutely have to stay vigilant.

Like a cruise liner, the world is mostly passengers. I don't expect the vast majority of people to ever learn what happened before they were born.
