You REALLY think ol' Joe is going to turn down those late night phone calls from the pope?

Oh - you optimist you......

Given that there are about 50 million adult Catholics in the US, most of whom are eligible to vote, I don’t think ANY American president would turn down a late night phone call from the pope.

True enough - but the average Catholic doesn't have to field requests for favor from the pontiff.

I'm not sure how often the Pope feels the need to call on the US president.

Anyone know how often the Pope and Jack Kennedy chatted?

The current pontiff, as well as the Church hierarchy as a whole, is pretty clear that separation of church and state is a good thing.  I don't expect this to be an issue.

That is true. But as more and more of what the rcc is comes out into the open, the extremists are becoming a bigger share of the catholic population. In twenty years USian catholicism will be like Irish catholicism, populated mostly by the headbangers.

One big difference -

In JFK's time - abortion was not legal in the USA.

The pope might want a word with Joe about that....

Biden may be a Catholic, but he doesn't resemble someone out of the Handmaid's Tale.

I kinda hope we see women get pregnant and have a protest abortion just to piss the conservatives off.
"Tradition" is just a word people use to make themselves feel better about being an asshole.

That's your yardstick of reality?

A TV show?

.

We will keep that in mind.

I think most American Catholics are liberal. My late mother was an economic conservative, but socially, she was pro choice, and for gay marriage.

Same can be said for most American Jews. Most American Jews are liberal.

Congress has the constitutional power to determine the jurisdiction of the Supreme Court. If the House and Senate vote to legislate that the SC cannot hear cases on, say, abortion; they can do so and any such cases would not go past the state Supreme Courts.
I'm not anti-Christian. I'm anti-stupid.
