RE: So, I'm watching ST:TNG

Before I forget, the way they developed the character of Wesley Crusher in ST:TNG was so fucking ridiculous and detached from the Human Experience that I found it bloody annoying, throughout all the seasons of ST:TNG with him in it.
Especially all that masturbation about human potential by The Traveler in the episode "Where No One Has Gone Before" (s1e5). Sure, the writers were aiming high or some shit, but let's be real here (despite it being in a sci-fi setting), no reasonable person was able to see the humanity in the ridiculously disproportionate and out-of-scope characterization of this fucking kid. "Shut up Wesley", indeed.
Still, Q remains worse than Wesley, which is quite a feat.

On season two, and I still haven't found Wesley to be annoying.

eh, the character might have some appeal - this is just my ridiculous take.

I already know what it was. It was the late eighties, those tuning in were more prone to trust the adults of the show, who constantly and illogically complained against Wesley in the first season.
We know better today.
I already mentioned this earlier in the thread, by the way.

Except my critique isn't about authority, per se, it's more about an unrealistic portrayal of a kid as some kind of wunderkind.

I'm guessing so did The "Outrageous" Okona.

Honestly, apart from a few exceptions, I don't think TNG got good until season three.

Yep, pretty much. Though as a nine year old, when I first saw it, seasons one and two were pretty impressive. Then again it was Start Trek 5: Shatner's Ego Frontier that first got me into the show, I was very impressionable back then.

Oh, Q, what would the series be without you?
And we meet The Borg.
