A Thought from a Deist

RE: A Thought from a Theist
Quote:I can't imagine ANY atheist being "OFFENDED" by your belief, but I CAN see a passionate curiosity about what the concept of "god" means to you.

Close, except for the curiosity . So far don't know enough about this guy to care what he thinks about anything. (no offence.)That may change in time.Thinking

@OP - You didn't offend me either.
"There ought to be a term that would designate those who actually follow the teachings of Jesus, since the word 'Christian' has been largely divorced from those teachings, and so polluted by fundamentalists that it has come to connote their polar opposite: intolerance, vindictive hatred, and bigotry." -- Philip Stater, Huffington Post

Since you seem not to care about what others believe then why is it you care about what others believe about you? You are a confusing person.

Welcome to the forum!

Why would a being who is perfect in every aspect bother to create a universe? Why would a being bother to create a universe full of lesser beings and test them when he already knows how they will do? Why would a being who is perfect allow a baby to be born only to die a day later without giving it the opportunity to face these tests? Why would a perfect being create another immensely powerful being, Satan, and then unleash him on the people he supposedly 'loves'?

Why would you believe such a complete load of bullshit to begin with?

Because god moves in mysterious ways...or some shit...duh!!

I am not offended by your position. A number of posts have questioned why it is that you hold your belief that a deity exists. I'll wager that you have the same reason for believing that there is a god as other deists or theists do - you have been told that a god exists. It's likely that you have been told (or read) about all sorts of gods; this is called hearsay. What you have basically done is discarded all of the attributes of god that others believe, and watered him down to some indescribable, unknowable entity. I'll concur with others - what's the point?

To me, a "deist" is an atheist with a safety net. "I don't believe in all that bullshit that organized religions preach, but just in case some of it is right, I'll believe that there is some sort of god".

Twenty votes so far 100% unoffended.

Maybe your views arent as contentious as you believe.

I blame the American media for such assumptions as Christians being persecuted and hated across the board. I will be very honest; I hate ALOT of what the bible says, but there are some good parts. I hate SOME Christians but it would be idiotic of me to blanket genralize everyone.

Yes, sometimes I refer to the word "Christians" and it looks like blakent generalizations. I am human, I make mistakes, and I dont want to type 50 million words to make my point. Usually when I say "Christians" I am talking about the pushy, hard right wing fascist types. Sometimes when I say Christian I mean all of them. I have many good friends that are what I call "the cool christians". The ones who are nice, and easy going, and have a good sense of humor. I like being around them, and we have good conversations sometimes on religion, but for the most part religion isnt a factor in our friendships.

I find your faith to be essentially pointless and without a logical or rational basis. But no, not offensive.

1.) Because it pleased Him.
2.) Because He loves them.
3.) I do not know why, you'll have to ask Him.
4.) God created an angle and this one decided he would turn on his creator, Satan made himself and freewill is the rest of the story.
5.) Because it's true and no matter how much you rant and rave you can not change that fact.
God loves those who believe and those who do not and the same goes for me, you have no choice in this matter. That puts the matter of total free will to rest.
