Yes and no.

Based on the updated accounts, I still think he was targeting Asians, but more for a taste reason. I think this guy got rejected one too many times by Asian women.

He liked Asians, but got pissed they rejected him. But regardless, his daddy's deeply religious indoctrination didn't help.

My point is that I don't care.

I don't care that he murdered them because of religious indoctrination that sex was evil, or if he really hated Asians. I don't care. He was a disturbed person, and the assholes who sold him the firearms he used to commit the murders didn't give a shit that by selling him the firearms the end result would end up in 8 needless deaths.

All the sellers cared about was making a buck.

Funny you come to that conclusion. He was targeting sex workers because these massage parlours were an addiction for him. Nobody gets rejected at a massage parlour. How do you know his daddy indoctrinated him in religion? How do you know he bought the weapons he used? How do you expect a seller (if there was one) to know what would happen with the gun?

You’ve made a lot of unjustified assumptions in a very short post.

Seeing that in most places in the US sex for money is illegal, I would assume that's why sex workers aren't a protected class in and of itself.

I once met a girl who worked at a massage parlour (and for the benefit of anyone reading this who happens to be my wife, I would like to stress that I met her in a totally non-massage situation).

She seemed very sincere that she and her co-workers didn’t consider themselves part of the sex-for-money trades, since BJs and handies weren’t actually sex.

The things we tell ourselves to get through the day, amiright?

Boru

I certainly don't think that all workers in massage parlors are sex workers.  I was looking at his supposed issue with a sex addiction and his frequenting of those particular spas.  He was supposedly out to rid the world of what tempted him...it was either massages or sex or some combination of the two. Of course, that could be incorrect and time will tell as more is revealed.

Again, I don't care.

I don't care if he was targeting sex workers.
I don't care if he was targeting Asians.
I don't care if he was targeting Muslims.
I don't care if he was targeting atheists.
I wouldn't care if it was a workplace grudge.
I wouldn't care if he was mentally ill.

I do know that he went into a firearm shop, and because of our crappy vetting, walked out in short order, to go on to murder 8 of our fellow human beings just hours after his legal buy.

We live in a country, that if you want blow someone's brains out, over a grudge, over drugs, over alimony, over jealousy, over money, or anything, any motive, we live in a country where obtaining a firearm is easier than becoming a passenger jet pilot.

You CANNOT predict future human behavior.

You seem to claim you can.

Tell us how.

Show us your crystal ball.

Fallacy of equivocation.

I cannot predict what a firearm buyer will do, BUT THAT IS NOT THE FUCKING POINT!

You are using this bullshit argument to avoid facing our firearm violence problem.

Show my YOUR crystal ball that predicts that everyone who legally buys a firearm won't go on to get violent.

Your "crystal ball" is falsely assuming a legal buy will prevent the buyer from getting violent after the legal buy.

Yesterday's nut who murdered 8 people had no detectable record preventing him from LEGALLY buying the firearms he used just hours before his killing spree.

And again, none of what I am arguing is calling for a 100% ban on all firearms.

I am saying that our vetting process SUCKS.

James Huberty in 1984 managed to legally buy firearms and walk into a McDonalds in California and murder 21 people. And despite the fact he sought mental health prior to committing that mass murder, the laws at that time didn't prevent him from owning the firearm he committed the mass murder with. Nothing could have stopped yesterday's sicko either. But that is my point. You falsely accuse me of defaulting to presumption of guilt, which is not what I am arguing.

Stop using the "crystal ball" bullshit. This isn't about denial of rights, or assuming guilt. It is a matter of public safety. Just like taking a pilots test, isn't assuming you will crash the plane.

And I will say it again. Having read your responses over the years on this issue, I damned sure know if you owned a gun shop, you would NOT sell me a firearm. But, your fucked up logic ignores that I could go to another shop and legally buy one right now.

Do you have a "crystal ball" that would predict me using a firearm to commit a killing spree? No you do not. But I also know you'd be lying your ass off if you'd claim you'd be willing to sell me a firearm.

Saying firearms are too easy to obtain, is not a call for a 100% ban.
Stupid twat.

I don' t make any claims of anyone' s future actions.

It' s fucking impossible.

And no I would not sell you a firearm. I' m sure you' re as annoying in R/L as you are online... I' d toss you out of the shop just for that.....

The vetting for pilots involves aircraft worth 100's of millions of dollars - not a $600 pistol. You can' t expect the same level of involvement. Of course your answer is to tack it on to the cost of the gun - making it into the 10s or 100s of thousand dollars for that kind of vetting.  So a $600 gun costs $12,000. What do you care - you are not denying anyone their rights.....

You wouldn’t care if he was mentally ill? That’s bizarre. It seems to me that one possible way to reduce these kinds of incidents would be to do a better job of finding and counseling people who might have a tendency to do this sort of thing.

Your country is already awash in firearms. Restricting sales isn’t going to stop mass shootings. It isn’t even going to slow them significantly.

Way to twist my words. Certainly say someone who has autism or is schizophrenic who gets violent should not be treated the same as someone who does not have those maladies, should not be treated the same. When I say "I don't care if someone is mentally ill" I am not arguing I don't care about the mentally ill. I am arguing that all others should not be allowed to hide behind those arguments.

Um, where exactly are you getting the number that vetting a prospective gun buyer properly would cost $12,000 (or maybe $11,400) a pop? Are you dividing the cost it would create a database sufficient for a background check by the number of prospective buyers (and apparently assuming it wouldn’t be paid for by taxes if your wording is any indication)? I’m legitimately confused as to how you got that number.

You said, ‘I wouldn’t care if he was mentally ill.’ I replied by saying that better diagnosis and treatment of the mentally ill might be one possible way to impact the number of mass shootings.

I didn’t accuse you of not caring about people with mental health issues, and I certainly didn’t twist your words or take them out of context. What I did was to point out that focusing on the relative ease-of-purchase of firearms in the US and not caring (your words) about other facets of the issue isn’t going to help.

From the deep well of his fear of others.  The notion that, as a way of denying him his rights™.. anti gun folks would tack exorbitant fees to any purchase.

Not that this would matter, since the constitution doesn't garantee any right to a cheap pistol.

Getting away from the arguments, it is clear that this piece of shit was targeting Asians, women, or both.

From what I've seen of his social media he was a right wing Christian, a Trumpanzee, and, possibly, an incel.

Whatever his motives, he was caught and needs to be locked up for ever.

And those who call Corona the "Chinese virus" need to be seriously censured for doing so.
