One went for a pistol in his waistband while standing next to me at a bar, the other one (whose arm I broke) had his gun almost touching my face. These weren’t professional types, they were the sort of buffoons who expect that the mere sight of a gun is a guarantee of getting people to back down.
But I don’t disagree with your assessment - if I hadn’t been within grappling distance, I likely would have employed different defensive techniques (i.e., run like a rabbit).
Boru Running like a rabbit with it' s ass on fire is a solid, time proven technique - providing your assailant isn' t really intent on plugging you. Hitting a fast moving target with a handgun is difficult, but not impossible.
We used to practice with 22s - trying to hit dragonflies. One in 30 is pretty good. These days the bugs are in decline - so it' s no longer done...
I have also shot skeet with a 22 semi auto rifle on board a Coast Guard ship. It's common using shotguns. The executive officer was impressed that I got a few with a .22 rifle.. Of course after I got a couple - everybody else had to give it a try... Fortunately I had a full brick of ammo. ( 550 rounds).
It’s been my experience that people who wave guns around and shout threats aren’t really interested in shooting someone (this is a rule of thumb, not a law of nature). It’s largely bluster.

It' s interesting that you have more experience with people misbehaving with firearms than I.

Sorry, did I say that?

Nope, never said that, never implied that, never even hinted at that. In fact, I was careful to say ‘It’s been my experience…’. So, I think all you can reasonably take from that is that my experiences in this area have been different from yours. Not ‘more’, just ‘different’.

It is quite clear you have had more experience with people misbehaving with firearms. You disarmed 2?
The worst I ever had was a clueless old lady coming into the gun shop looking to sell her recently deceased husbands pistol - which she was waving about - loaded....
No malice - just clueless.
She placed it on the counter when I asked her to.

Wow, did you see Will Smith slapping Chris Rock and yelling at him at the Oscars? I uploaded an uncensored version on Facebook because it would probably be taken down anywhere else.

teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

Will Smith definitely overreacted.

Marjorie Taylor Greene has said that Pete Buttigieg and his husband 'need to stay out of girls' bathrooms'.
It must be exhausting to be so filled with hate that you get your transphobia mixed up with your homophobia.

I've been so-so on Will Smith's acting for a while now, but this was disgusting behavior. You have to physically protect your wife against bald jokes? It is far better to laugh over her losing her hair that treat it like a tragedy.
I think Will Smith has let fame go to his head. He and his family aren't the biggest things in the world.
In any other world except Hollywood, Smith would be up on charges.
