Which is a clear plus for the Brits over the Yanks. Maybe in three more years whoever they pick as leader will resign yet again for failing to get anything done. Unless, of course, Britain comes to their senses and finally votes Labour.

At the moment if you vote Labour, you'll get a tory. That's a big problem.

I'll make some popcorn while we wait for the apologists.

A federal judge sentenced singer and convicted sexual predator R. Kelly to 30 years in prison Wednesday.

Kelly was convicted last September of racketeering and violating the Mann Act, a sex trafficking law, including having sex with underage girls. He could have faced up to life in prison.

So R. Kelly was convicted on two charges, neither of which had specifically NOTHING to do with minors? Thinking make it make sense

RICO charges (racketeering) were from violating the Mann Act also known as 'The White-Slave Traffic Act' , which was a racist law created in 1910 and famously used to imprison Jack Johnson (a black man) for having sex with white women.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mann_Act

Quote:In its original form the act made it a felony to engage in interstate or foreign commerce transport of "any woman or girl for the purpose of prostitution or debauchery, or for any other immoral purpose".
*emphasis mine*

"Immoral purpose" is very vague terminology.

Meanwhile Ghislaine Maxwell is convicted on SIX charges SPECIFIC to minors and gets less time than R. Kelly.

Sex trafficking of a minor

Enticing a minor to travel to engage in criminal sexual activity

Transporting a minor with the intent to engage in criminal sexual activity

Three counts of conspiracy.

Ghislaine Maxwell = 20 years, R. Kelly = 30 years.

Not saying that R.Kelly is innocent, I want you to make sense of why he received more prison time than Ghislaine Maxwell...

RE: Noteworthy News
So, are you saying that Maxwell should have gotten more time? Because I'm actually here for you if that's your take. Also if you're arguing that the laws are enforced in racist ways, but, let's face it, they got R. Kelly dead to rights. And the racketeering convictions went beyond the Mann Act. Here's the list of acts that counted as racketeering in the trial. Also worth noting, the Mann Act, while it has been used for a lot of bullshit reasons, it has been amended since it was used to tar and feather Jack Johnson for crossing state lines with his white wife, it has since been amended (most notably in 1986) to make it specifically about "any sexual activity for which any person can be charged with a criminal offense" rather than the sort of wishy-washy bullshit that they could use to make any excuse to fuck with black people (like crossing state lines with your white wife). And given the shit that's on the list of acts, I think it's safe to say that was actually good for once.

Gotta love how Huggy immediately turns this into a comparison between R Kelly and someone else and tries to make it look like R Kelly was somehow hard done by or the case is somehow about race.... Dodgy

I'd love to post a video of Huey's rant at the end of the R Kelly episode of The Boondocks, but given that it's, well, The Boondocks, some N-bombs are dropped and I think I might get in trouble if I did that. So, here's a redacted version in text form (bold mine):

Quote:What the hell is wrong with you people? Every famous REDACTED that gets arrested is not Nelson Mandela! Yes, the government conspires to put a lot of innocent black men in jail on fallacious charges. But R. Kelly is *not* one of those men! We all *know* the REDACTED can sing, but what happened to standards? What happened to bare minimums? Are you a fan of R. Kelly? You wanna help R. Kelly? Get some counseling for R. Kelly! Introduce him to some older women! Hide his camcorder! But don't pretend that the man is a hero!... And stop the damn dancing! Act like you've got some goddamn sense, people! Damn! I'm through playing around here!

I saw this, and I am wondering how my Japanese X wife is taking this. I'd bet outside of politics, she probably is feeling what most Americans thought, Democrats, Republicans, Independents, that it was horrifying to see the office get attacked like that when JFK was murdered.

While this PM was out of office, it doesn't mater, he still represented the office he once held.

But worse than that, our right wing gun nut cultists here want to spread their vile disease of "sell more" to the Japanese because of this. These morons don't want to face the fact that in Japan, WHICH IS NOT A DICTATORSHIP, it has virtually no firearm violence that would cause their government to go, "please hand out more guns". Yes, it is fucking horrible that our fellow human got shot dead with a firearm. But they also know that just because of that, MORE FIREARMS FOR EVERYONE, regardless if they have a need for one or not, WONT FUCKING WORK.

That isn't to say that any of their politicians should not have security ever, WE ARE NOT FUCKING ARGUING THAT. If someone is vetted for the job of protecting their officials, and they are not a domestic abuser, and they are mentally stable, and they passed all those hoops, then yea, the do have a ligit need to carry to protect their politicians. All we are arguing is stop going to the bullshit extreme of arguing if they can have a firearm then everyone can have one too, without being vetted.

AGAIN nobody in their right mind in a lucid state, who is being logical, would put up with a flight school that trained passenger Jet pilots if they simply said to a potential wannabe, "Ok, here you go, your flight leaves in two days, be on time to be in the cockpit" just two days after they applied. GUNS ARE NOT A FUCKING HOBBY, you still have to take them seriously at a shooting range. AND ANY FUCKING MORON who names their shooting range "Burgers And Bullets" is not fucking competent enough to own one. If you allow a kid with scrawny arms, who cant handle the recoil of an Uzi, and shoots her instructor in the head, that is plenty of fucking evidence you have no fucking clue what you are doing or selling.

Kelly was convicted of and sentenced for nine counts, not two. You’re correct that Maxwell was convicted of six counts, but she was only sentenced for three (the judge agreed the some of the conspiracy charges were repetitive).

So…30 / 9 = 3 and a third per count for Kelly. 20 / 3 = 6 and two thirds per count for Maxwell. Seems like Kelly got the lesser sentence.

Zebo, I just noticed you liked this post. I may have been too quick to post that. I do have A D D in all seriousness.

I am not sure now, upon further deeper review if he was the squeaky clean uniter I might have mistakenly made him out to be.

According to a recent article, Japan was divided on the issue of supporting him, or not supporting him.

It may be that that PM, like far to many white Americans still do today when they say, "Why should I have to keep apologizing for what my ancestors did to blacks, and even women and Native Americans".

This former PM is correct in that the citizens of Japan do not have to apologize for what the fascist Empire did back then. I 100% agree with that.
But it is still important, just like slavery in America, to keep that memory in the history books, without honoring it like they were heros or Gods.

This PM was advocating if I am correct, the dismantling of the separation of the military from the ruling class. That would be, if that really was what he advocated for, would be dangerous because that would lead to the very thing he said he should not have to apologize for in the first place. If you claim you were not responsible for the hyper nationalism back then, then don't be stupid and set the stage for that to happen again. That is why it is important to keep the fascist Empire in the history books. Not because Japanese are inherently evil, but just like any society in the world, as the axiom rightfully goes, "Those who fail to learn from the past, are doomed to repeat it."

That isn't trying to shame anyone, just a warning that if you don't keep the bad stuff humans are capable of in the history books of what not to do to your fellow human, you most certainly have the potential to set the stage for the same thing to happen again.

(Bold mine)

Shinzo Abe went further than saying the citizens of Japan had no need to apologize for the systemic, institutionalized sexual enslavement of women. He spent most of his career pushing the false claim that it never happened at all.

The reason Abe wanted to erase the crimes of the Japan's fascist past is because Abe was a fascist.
