I think in this case, with the implicit threat of the USA detaching from NATO while Russia is hammering at Ukraine, such outlays are prudent.
I didn’t say it wasn’t a good idea - sometimes, a 180 is the best course to take.

I disagree. It certainly does trade on the expectations of future earnings. What's debatable is how realistic those expectations are. If Tesla solves the self-driving thing and if they are successful in getting the Optimus robot to perform useful tasks, the expectations may be realistic. If not, Tesla is in for a crash - even without Elon Musk's rise to the status of one of the world's premier assholes.
This is the argument I have seen against the Tesla board outing Elon Musk. He is seen as the guy who brings the magic. There's still plenty of people who believe in him. Without him, Tesla is just another car company. An innovative one to be sure but with nowhere near the upside to justify the stock price. So the Tesla board doesn't want to risk it.
I think they're fucked either way. They can't continue to absorb the hits they're taking now and I don't see people stopping hating Elon Musk. The only thing I see saving them is if they finally solve full self-driving and do it very soon.
I would consider those expectations maybe reasonable at around 150/share. I wouldn't bet on their ability to deliver a feature that they've failed to deliver so far. Trade ins are on the rise and new sales are down YOY in many markets.
They're fucked.
At 250-500, it's a bad joke IMHO.

Euractiv investigated the 'Paracetamol challenge,' an alleged TikTok trend where people take excessive doses of the common painkiller, risking liver failure and death, that prompted warnings from health ministries and European authorities.

How painful is acetaminophen overdose, given that it is a pain killer? I found out a few years back that one of the nicest girls I knew in high school overdosed on it.

I'm kind of reminded of a scene from an old Brit TV show.
"I'm going to kill myself then you'll be sorry!"
*starts downing a huge bottle of pills*
"Can you actually kill yourself with laxative pills?"
"I don't know, but I'm going to stick around and find out!"

Centre-right parties are always fiscal conservatives except when they’re not, which is always.
Boru This was not a bill, but a change of the constitution. A 2/3 majority was needed and this was done with the help of the center left SPD and green party.
Chancellor Scholz from SPD had done the same, for "only" 100 billions, last year.

I bow to your superior knowledge of all things German, but the linked article said Merz needed to get this through before 25 March, out of fear that Der Linke and those AfD nutters might block it.

Boru Yes, thats true. But it still does not mean the whole effort is a center right thing only, its an "everybody but the worst Putin appeasers, aka BSW/AfD" thing. Including the center left SPD and even parts of the extreme left "Die Linke" (who have votes in the Bundesrat/Senate via the states of Bremen and Meck-Pomm).
The goal was to push this amendment of the constitution. To do this, you need a 2/3 majority. The only parties to completely reject this are the BSW and AfD. In the current (2021 election) Bundestag, AfD/BSW will NOT be able to block this. In the new one to constitute on 25th (after 2025 February election) they would.
Since the CDU won the elections, and since Merz is the candidate for chancellor, the CDU and SPD are in negotiations about a coalition (which will be most probably successful). Merz as future chancellor thus launched this initiative after Trumps Meltdown in his meeting with Zelensky. However the entire election was necessary because the coalition of SPD and FDP broke apart. Guess why: Scholz tried exactly the same Merz did. He wanted to make exemptions for infrastructure and military spending from the "debt brake".
Scholz had exactly the same plan Merz just successfully executed. However his coalition broke apart over this. Most probably CDU /Merz would have agreed to this plan in late 2024 anyway, and now it has become Merz´ plan and the SPD (and greens and part of "Die Linke") do agree as well.
Thats why it never was, or is a center right plan. It was a plan accepted across most of the political spectrum since late 2024. A plan over which Scholz tripped, and which Merz picked up.
