I remember back in the early 2000s when I would still occasionally read some magazines, there would be these articles humanizing Google guys, like, "did you know that every Wednesday they empty the parking lot around the Google headquarters to play street hockey? You know, they are like us! They don't care about money, they just want to have fun and be nice to everyone."

Even then I loathed them and saw they were full of shit.

Google founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin have quietly moved dozens of business entities and assets out of California in recent months.

Their moves come as California considers a proposed wealth tax that would impose a one-time levy on residents worth more than $1 billion, a measure that would apply retroactively to those living in the state as of Jan. 1.

So this a just dandy. Half a million has been raised for the micro-penis guy for his defense after shooting Ms. Good in the face and killing her.

This is a very slippery slope. Those masked goons who are put to prove their macho to the OrangeIdiot now have even more incentive to shoot - a nice fat payout to get off the hook. That punk Rittenhouse (spelling?), well, his MAGAt buddies started this and we should have paid more attention.

The MAGAts are now funding assassins and know they don't even have to keep it on the down low. Every knuckle-dragging idiot who wants to be all big and bad have even more reason to play Trump's game. I am to the point of not being able to believe this stuff is happening. I have pretty much lost all faith in this country...and I have been holding on to what little I have had by the thinnest of threads.

It's not the USA; it is a shortcoming of our species. Tribalism is part of our DNA and it has a powerful effect. So many of us are unable to overcome it. Then there is the weird phenomena that some individuals like Hitler and Trump have a Jedi-like power to influence those most addicted to tribalism.

Hopefully, the underlying legal infrastructure of this country will be better able to hold off this insanity than 1930s - era Germany could. It was designed to do that.

We are definitely living in interesting times. What happens in the period between now and the mid-terms election may set the course of Humankind for hundreds of years.

You and I are of similar age. I'm sure both of us were hoping for more peace in our twilight years than adventure - at least this kind of adventure. But that was not the hand we were dealt. At least it probably won't last too long.

It wasn't. The US constitution predates Weimar by 150y. The creators of Weimar were no fools either and thought they made a robust state.

They never thought that the powers of the president could be abused to abandon democracy. You are in the same boat now, EXACTLY the same boat.
