I dunno....

I got repeated billing from Airgas for my oxygen bottle on my torch rig - even though I owned my tank....

I had swapped cylinders through them - and they were trying to say I rented the tank from them...

But - oddly - they could not find my " rental agreement". (As it did not exist).

They finally backed off when I threatened them with a lawyer....

How come nobody is going after those pricks?

When we moved here there was a huge LP tank outside that was for the heater on the spa/pool. We had no idea how long it had been here and the heater itself certainly didn't look like a safe piece of equipment. We really didn't want to use it anyway...you really don't need to heat the pool when there are weeks of 90 degree + temps. Anyway, I called the company whose name was on the tank and asked them to come get it. We had been in the house a couple years by then and we wanted to get rid of it and the heater and build a shed over the other pool equipment with room to store chemicals and things.

I went round and round with them and they wouldn't come get it. Then they decided they would start charging rent on the damn thing...it was probably put in by the people who had the house built and there was another owner between them and us.

It just so happened I was on a contract position with a welding supply company. I talked to the boss about it and he gave me the number to the Railroad Commission (who is in charge of such things in Texas). I called the company back and told them how many days I would give them to get rid of that damn tank before I called the commission. It hadn't been inspected by the company in who knows how long. It took about two days for it to disappear and we never heard another word out of them.

A long-uninspected, pressurized tank with flammables in it? What could go wrong?  Panic

Many years ago my FiL had a motor home with a propane tank for the cooking and heating. He went to a place that sold propane, and when they were filling it, something started leaking. They were not allowed to even start the thing for fear of an explosion. It sat there for over a day, blocking the tank, until the propane had all leaked out.

Kerosene and fertilizer. Can't find the praying emoji.  Doh

You know, I have a hard time wrapping my head around them being serious at the garden supply place. The only term I can use for that kind of behavior is insane. They have a malevolent version and should be locked up. I'm going to throw this out there, and I could be entirely wrong, but the question has to be asked- have the evangelicals penetrated so deeply into the reps that many have lost their collective minds, and actually believe the crap they spew?

Man charged with felony, jailed on $50k cash bond for 43-cent ‘theft’

Joseph Sobolewski stopped at a convenience store in Perry County last month where he saw a sign for 20-ounce Mountain Dew bottles: 2 for $3.

He grabbed a bottle, slapped $2 on the counter and walked out.

What he didn’t know was a single bottle was $2.29, not $1.50. So he had shorted the store 29 cents plus tax, or 43 cents total.

The store called police, who tracked him down. Pennsylvania State police officers charged him with a felony, locked him up on $50,000 cash-only bond. He’s facing the possibility of up to seven years in prison.

teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

This might be the most disturbing thing from that article:

Quote:Third and subsequent offenses, no matter the amount, are all graded as a third-degree felonies, which is the same charge for items valued at more than $1,000. Other crimes that count as a third-degree felony are involuntary manslaughter, institutional sexual assault and carrying a firearm without a license.

So, not paying 43c is legally the equivalent of involuntary manslaughter. That is, in judicial parlance, epically fucked up.
