Pizza, just bit the bullet, trying something new.

Pizza, just bit the bullet, trying something new.
I love pineapple on pizza. But just now, I bought a frozen pizza, with nothing but cheese on it. But bought some Canadian bacon, pre sliced onions, but instead of pineapple, I put mandarin oranges in place. I am going to bake it halfway, then add more cheese halfway. Regardless of topping, I've always hated places that put the cheese down first, then the toppings on top. I've always loved the toppings buried under the cheese.

So this experiment is merely a tropical pizza replacing pineapple with mandarin oranges.

Good luck.

A good cheese pizza can be remarkable. I keep buying the ingredients for making pizza and procrastinating until they're no longer good. Aldi's had 3 mini-pizza crusts at the store, so I bought those and some mozzarella cheese. Hopefully, I'll get to these this time. And I've got enough uncooked sausage laid back in the freezer for 100 pizzas. I've got sweet Italian sausage and banana peppers. That sounds like a good combo. And I can do all the preparation in my new, 25-liter air fryer.

I go through spells of buying the mini pizza crusts and other makings.  It's kind of nice to be able to make a pizza that's just the right size for one.  I like minimal sauce and lots of cheese.  I normally get pepperoni that I cut into smaller pieces and sometimes I add olives.  I like to bake for a while and then broil so the pepperoni and cheese brown up a bit. In fact, that might be what I have for supper tonight...thanks for the idea.

Well I just pulled it out of the oven, but what I did not take into account was the moisture of the mandarin oranges. Tastes good, as I expected it would, but the moisture of the oranges made the crust a bit soupy.  Tastes great. but if I actually want a slice I can pick up, instead of using a spoon, I have to recalculate preparation.

I told you a while back that adding a citrus fruit might not work all that well.

I love mandarin oranges but just don't think baking them is a good idea.

You might try dried fruit next time. Soak it for a few minutes beforehand. The fat from the cheese might soften it up a bit further.

Yea I get that, but having worked pizza delivery, why is it pineapple can remain moist but not f up the crust? I've made tons of Hawaiian pizzas and from my perspective the pineapple was just as moist.

Derail: We have an Aldi's about 8 blocks from us but I've never been in. Their quality was questioned in my limited social circle and they never run commercials.

Give me your pro's and con's. How they compare to a normal market?

Brian: Compress the oranges in a paper towel before applying, broil separately then add, or wait till the last few minutes before adding them.

I'd like to hear the pros and cons on Aldi's too.  My dad loved it but at the time he was still around there wasn't one near me.  Now there's one just a couple miles away.  I have never been in it.
