Global warming: Are we doomed? A poll.

RE: Global warming: Are we doomed? A poll.
It’s one way of establishing permanent raised beds for conservation ag, too.

They gave it some ridiculous name, starts with a k but escapes me at present.

-it occurs to me that the sentiments expressed by biker are a good example of what I think our biggest problems going forward will be. There’s a lot of resistance to adopting new methods or practices, some of it credible and hard to resolve,......but, a lot of it, in my experience...just batshit insane and completely wrong. Especially when it comes to food production and systems.

That’s the thing that’s gonna kill us, if anything. Not the weather.

So you can imagine if there are more droughts and more desertification around the world there will be more people starving, and considering that just in Canada is 49°C or 121°F it's not hard to see the situation getting more desperate.

I've seen people claim otherwise

teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

They go hungry and we overeat. There’s really no way around it, hunger is a human problem, not a weather problem.

That said, what I do is precisely aimed at getting local producers in those situations an entirely new model.

Like for starters, place lots of those machines that suck carbon from the air in places where there is lots of solar energy, like the Sahara. Store that carbon (dioxide) underground, and also fuse some of that carbon with hydrogen and produce fuel for all the cars and planes in enough quantity so we don't have to pump more oil from the ground, but just circle the carbon.

Then something must be done about that plastic and electronic garbage. Maybe build big gasification plants to burn all the plastics with very hot lasers in places with lots of solar energy like deserts.

And when it comes to producing electricity, wind and solar are now cheaper options than gas and coal.

And that's it. The solution doesn't seem so hard to implement.

Carbon capture and storage is pretty much a pipe dream, except for planting loads of trees, letting them grow 20 years, chopping them down, burying them and then replanting new ones.  In the long term that will work but not in the tmescale we have.

So if we still have descendants in 100 million years or so they can thank us for having more coal to burn?

WTF are you babbling about?

You think I'm " batshit insane" for not jumping on your fantasy train?

I say that solar and windpower are a joke - when considering our power consumption.

Are YOU " off grid"? Are you enjoying " cheap solar energy"? And don't give me some bullshit that your electric company is big into solar.

If it was actually cheap - you would have your own system and you wouldn' t have to give a nickle to those evil commercial power companies....

It' s not cheap. It' s not fully reliable. It is NOT " green" like you would like to pretend. The manufacture of just batteries creates a SHITLOAD of pollution - and environmental damage. Same goes for solar panels.

It' s just not in your backyard.....

I already provided the evidence that solar is cheaper than fossil fuels even without subsidies and Nudger's lack of solar panels says nothing about its cost.

Fuck your stupid Hehe

Nah because nobody will be using coal

RE: Global warming: Are we doomed? A poll.
Our coop did just build a nice big solar farm a couple years back and we do pay less for electricity on account of it, but that doesn’t really help me much. Solar isn’t going to bring my greenhouse up to 60 on a winter night.

Do I think you’re bat shit insane and plainly wrong? Ofc, I do...because you seem to have some mad max situation in mind, whereas I make a living doing site demos and new installations in the ag sector. It’s a non profit op and we mostly work with or through the nrcs, epa, and usda grant programs specific to conservation agriculture.

So, no..biker, I’m not off grid and have no interest in going off grid. The point of sustainability is to get everyone more, with less.

It’s just good business. I’m sure you recognize that in your junkyard operation as well?

And I don't give a fuck if you do. You're still wrong whether you acknowledge it or not and you still look like a dumbass whether you deal with my comments or run away from them. Either way, I win. Hehe
