Stupid things religious people say
RE: Stupid things religious people say

teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

Trump said by the grace of god he’s still alive.

Wouldn’t the god he believes in bring him into heaven if he was killed? I never understand why Xians give credit to god for keeping them from paradise..

Or he’s thanking god for not sending him to hell at this time?

Apparently, none of them (theists) want to go to heaven and none of them want to go to hell.
I had asked about this once to a christian and he said that they want to go to heaven but if they did, their loved ones would be sad.

Well, the solution to that seems obvious:
1. Just communicate with them via Skype or a telephone. Who is preventing you from talking to your loved ones?
2. Take your loved ones with you.
3. People might get sad over your death but it is usually not permanent. Life goes on. Look at all the millions of people in your city. They are living their life. The city is still operational.

Length = 40:48

^^^^^1:00 - 3:30 It says after Jesus was crucified, he went on an amazing and brave adventure before he came back to life.
This adventure was to a part of hell where good souls had been trapped and waited for rescue.
Imagine hell like a giant dark cave, full of shadows and scary noises. The entrance was guarded by big spooky gates with scary creatures, with demons prowling around.
It was a place that was really frightening.

^^^^^What is that about? Is that in the Bible?
Jesus went to hell? Spooky gates? Scary noises?

How is the old gal doing?

If you use selection bias, and sharpshooter fallacies, then prayer always will "work", just remember to shrug and point out its all part of god's mysterious plan, when things go awry.

I remember an apologist saying that god answers every prayer, then blithely, but seriously explaining he (god) doesn't always answer yes.

You can't dent a rationale like that.

No human being is perfect in and of themselves "for all have sinned and come short of the glory of GOD" so "judge not, that you be not judged. For with what judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you. And why do you look at the speck in your brother’s eye, but do not consider the plank in your own eye?" - Matthew 7:1-3

Therefore, "...work out your own salvation with fear and trembling" - Philippians 2:12

How does someone else's misdirection, or an inconsequential focus on the same profit me and my personal standing / status before the holy, Almighty GOD?
I am always curious what theists and apologists, hope to achieve by quoting the bible at atheists? I mean would you be swayed by someone quoting the koran or the Bhagavad Gita to you? I can't fathom the rationale? You realise it's also unlikely that atheists believe in supernatural curses like sin?

It's usually a good idea to check the date of a post you're responding to.  That one was from three years ago.
Disappointing theists since 1968!
