Atheism and the meaning of life - what drives you?
RE: Atheism and the meaning of life - what drives you?
I would just like to point out that neither of the principals in this spat is called ‘Brian’.

Thank you.

Dodge.

What is it exactly that I'm "dodging"?  It would be nice to know.

If I changed my username to Brian, would that make him happy?

You can't run from real life, kiddo.

This from someone who makes up his own religion...

At least I'm asking him what it is he thinks I did, unlike someone else I know.

Actually, I should add @Ahriman you can't criticize because you avoid just about every question you are asked.

I avoid answering questions when the answer would be too overwhelming to come up with.

That's interesting.  And you feel that it's just OK to bow out of the discussion because of that?  You don't feel that it is inconsiderate to just ignore a question like it was never asked?  I say this because I intentionally avoided a question of yours and you seemed irritated by that action, yet you do this on a regular basis.  And this is a forum, where question/answers are a common thing.  It's called a discussion and people generally enter into it to learn and understand things from other people.  What I'm getting at is whether you understand the concept and does it even matter to you?

It does matter to me but I am not that smart and I do not always know how to put my feeling into words. When I feel as if I can't properly explain what I want to say, I just don't say anything.

Do you feel that some of the questions you've been asked on this forum challenge your thinking or beliefs?

Not really, not "challenge". I mean, I don't feel threatened. I'm sure someone else in the world has the same beliefs I have.

No, I don't mean challenge as in threaten.  Rather do they sometimes cause you to question what you really think or believe about something?  Do they cause you to go deeper in thought about a topic than you have before?  I'm asking this because if you are having difficulty putting your thoughts to words then perhaps these questions are taking you somewhere you haven't been before in your thoughts.  And this is a good thing.  This is precisely why I engage in this way with others.  When people talk about things like the meaning of life, I'm hoping someone says something I've never heard or thought of before because this provides me with a new idea that I should evaluate and perhaps incorporate into my own worldview.  I know this must come as a shock to you since you think that I'm narrow minded and rigid, but this is the truth.  I was narrow minded and rigid back when I was an obedient Christian.  But listening to others and thinking about what they said had an impact on me and led me to widen my worldview significantly.
