Can you consider Atheism an ethnicity

Can you consider Atheism an ethnicity
Wanted to hear some thoughts. As someone from a mixed ancestral background I am more comfortable classing myself ethnically atheist than anything else at this point . Is it allowed though?

I typed atheism as ethnicity in google and scanned this very vaguely (link below), doesn’t seem much else on it though haven’t looked hard

I am starting to suspect atheism is a post post (yes post twice over is deliberate) modern ethnicity, not sure if I’m explaining this right . I have no attachment to other ethnicities or lifestyles so thought I would bring this one up and see if anyone is thinking similar

https://www.convergemedia.org/atheism-new-ethnicity/

Fortunately I can get away with this as my family stupidly made us celebrate two religions growing up and my ancestry is

The word "ethnic/ethnicity" has a hereditary and/or genetic component. As such, atheism does therefore not fall under that umbrella term, IMO, an umbrella terms we'd all be better off without full stop, BTW. It's divisive. There's only one race - the human race etc etc etc.

Race is different to ethnicity , this is why I think it’s possible and makes sense to me . Race and ethnicity are both social constructs I’m fully aware but I still wanted to mention this

You’re wrong. Twice.

Here’s a quote from national geographic :
Neither race nor ethnicity is detectable in the human genome. Humans do have genetic variations, some of which were once associated with ancestry from different parts of the world

No, atheism is not an ethnicity, either genetically or culturally. The very idea is just stupid and silly.

The article cited defines ethnicity this way:

Quote:Ethnicity, at its core, is a set of values and practices passed down from generation to generation.

But fails to determine which ‘values and practices’ are common to atheists, and gives no evidence that these are generationally transmitted.

Ethnicity is a social construct not genetic. Culturally number one definition :

1.
in a way that relates to the ideas, customs, and social behaviour of different societies.

Cultures are socially constructed too

You can try to argue race has some biology to it and isn’t a pure social construct, ethnicity not at all though because it isn’t defined the same

So why can Atheism not be an ethnicity other than you thinking stupid and silly? Any logical substance? Apart from you not wanting to identify like this yourself of course

See my edit, above. Even among the small sampling of atheists on this forum, there doesn’t appear to be a unique or even common set of values and practices.
