The recent ammo/gun shortage opened up some odd opportunities.
I was in the local gun shop the other day to pick up some stuff for my crossbow and happened to spend a few minutes looking at guns.
I noticed that they had a pretty fair number of 22 rifles in stock. It makes sense - because they ran out of cheap 22 ammo last year. Guys won't buy a plinking rifle when ammo isn' t available. Not my problem - I have beaucoup 22 ammo.
So - I am going to pick up a Ruger 10/22 - polymer stock/stainless steel action (they have 4) - for $349 - well under the MSRP. It will replace my old one (blued/poly) I sold during the last shortage for $300.
Basic economics...

It's a squirrel gun brian.......but ruger is #1 for squirrel guns - at least we can still do something right.

That doesn't matter to 37. All guns are bad and used in mass shootings. It doesn't matter to him if the casualties are tree rats.

Oh my Thor, this isn't just about mass shootings. Even without all the stories that make national news, there are far more suicides, domestic violence, and neighbor on neighbor and accidental. Even without "mass shootings", America would still be #1 in firearm deaths and injuries.

Rats with tuleremia, typhus, fucking plague...and ringworm...that consistently destroy a significant portion of my fruiting vegetable crop.
For the record, the us has the 32nd highest rate of violent gun death, mass shooting included. The (perhaps unintuitive) conclusion is that we're extremely damned responsible for the number of guns and people with guns.

In fairness, you're probably not supposed to be shooting a pellet gun in a neighborhood, either, lol. Most states (and towns) have what they call corporate limit laws.

We are in TX. We could probably get by with shooting a cannon in the yard.

For me it's more of a paper punch than a squirrel gun.
For tree rats I have a 65 year old Marlin 39A - a lever rifle. Wonderful shooter - and feeds CB caps flawlessly. BB gun velocities. No louder than one. Makes hearing protection unnecessary - a big bonus when stalking the fearsome chipmunk.....
