Grad student seeking atheist to interview

RE: Grad student seeking atheist to interview
You dare belittle the principle of credulity, Helios?

Because without it, it's more rational to assume that, behind the username Helios, there is a monkey randomly typing letters and emojis and sending them to this board.

Yes yes, Klora Bora I know you're mad, And I don't care  Hehe

By your comments, it's rational to assume you are a bot programmed by an internet troll to spew mindless apologetic rubbish and to constantly lose arguments.

I don't take personal offense to ways of thinking that differ from my own. I am a former agnostic. I became a Christian at 31 years of age - so most of my life I was an unbeliever. It's not like this way of thinking is completely foreign to me - I understand unbelief.

People are not attacking you, but your unfounded claims. If you are not prepared to have your presuppositional apologetics challenged, stay out of the kitchen

We have no idea if there were witnesses at Jesus' crucifixion. There are no first person accounts. Biblical accounts of events are not usually accepted as history.  Nor are second hand (at least) accounts of writers such as Flavius Josephus.

Oh, agnosticism is about belief. The word comes from the Greek 'gnosis'  a=not/without  gnosis=knowledge.
Although the term is usually used in a religious context, in fact it may be used in any area. That means we are all agnostic, probably about far more things than not.

An atheist is only a person who does not believe in god(s) period. When you were an agnostic, you either believed in god or you did not.  There is no third option.

One may be an agnostic atheist as I am, or an agnostic theist.

Agnostic atheism is a philosophical position that encompasses both atheism and agnosticism. Agnostic atheists are atheistic because they do not hold a belief in the existence of any deity, and are agnostic because they claim that the existence of a deity is either unknowable in principle or currently unknown in fact.

The agnostic atheist may be contrasted with the agnostic theist, who believes that one or more deities exist but claims that the existence or nonexistence of such is unknown or cannot be known.[1][2][3]

Brooke, did your vagina make you lie and then say stupid shut? No? Good, then stop blaming it on how people hate your vagina.

Brooke, if you want to hang around I suggest that you start a new thread. But then try talking to us and not at us.

My grandfather told me stories that had been passed down from his grandfather's grandfather. The story was about how my great ancestor was in a shootout with Wild Bill. My great ancestor was only 17 at the time and he thought he was the best shot in the world.

He went up against Wild Bill and found out how wrong he was.
Wild Bill shot him dead and this was before he had taken a wife or had any children. They buried him in a shallow grave.

A few days later, family went to put flowers on the grave and found it empty. The body was gone. He had been resurrected some would say.

My family line is proof of that resurrection. If he hadn't come back to life, none of my ancestors would have been born.

Brooke, can you tell me what is wrong with believing that this story is factual and true ?

The principle of credulity actually dictates that we should believe you, until we are presented with evidence that you are making this up.

Because otherwise, if we were to accept Hume's criticism of miracles (that someone reporting events mistakenly is always more probable than that the laws of the universe were suspended for them) we are ruling out miracles a priori, it's question-begging.

Kloro, I know that you know what is intrinsically wrong with this story that I presented to everyone.

It's unbelievable for many reasons and you know this, but you also know that it's the same kind of unbelievable story that your religion absolutely begs for you to believe without question.

Then you understand why a story about unnamed people who never wrote anything down about their experience told by someone who wasn't there claiming that they saw something impossible according to the laws of biology and physics isn't very convincing, right? It certainly fits the definition of an unsubstantiated claim. If I said I could fly like Superman and said 500 people saw me do it, you wouldn't consider my claim substantiated, would you?

Still hopeful we can have a stimulating conversation without all the blame.

If the principle of credulity leads you to assume such an obvious fiction is true, it ought more accurately be called the principle of gullibility.

I am thankful to the mods for not banning me! I really do appreciate that, it hasn't gone unnoticed. I just wish some of the people here would stop attacking me. I feel like I can't even answer oldandeasilyconfused because if I answer him or her, people will rip my answer to shreds and put me down. It's like it makes their day to hurt mine. Well, I hope you all are happy!

brookelauren25 if you choose to stick around you will find a community of very caring people who don't mince words, and don't hold back. Insults do happen, but are good natured and the trick here is not to take offense. However be prepared to defend any statements you make - if you state there were eye witnesses, be prepared to back that up.

I will have a nice life, thank you. You do the same. The people I want to stay in touch with know how to reach me. I've found a better forum to be a part of where people of all beliefs are welcome.

We aren’t here to pat you on your butt for your beliefs. We’re here to challenge them. If that’s too uncomfortable for you, then I absolutely recommend you go somewhere fluffy and woo-friendly. This is not that place.
