To clarify, it isn't the value of spending time with family on a holiday. It is the commercialism that beats everyone over the head, which psychologically does, in reality cause feelings of failure and depression, not to mention the debt it causes.

The logical stuff about the story bothers me too, but not for the same reasons. If my late mother were still alive today, I would go over to her apartment and spend time with her. Not because of the holiday, but to have an excuse to spend time with her.

Logically speaking, I don't see the need for a "day" to be glorified, of any religion, as if you need an excuse to be kind and empathetic to others. You can do good and be kind every day of the year.

I love the commercialism!!

Settle down before you pop a vein.

We enjoy having a day off and a reason to be together. I've been pretty steadily chipping away at the commercialism in the last few years and it's finally starting to take.

Last year and this, I am made quilts for my kids' families. Yes, they cost money, but more than that they are something that I have made for them that will likely outlast me. They are special...not every family has things like that to pass down.

We aren't busy kneeling at the nativity scene but we are spending time with three generations and making memories.

A bit angry for my taste, unless something else is going on just off camera.

I have a cousin named Christmas. She turns 16 tomorrow. I feel her mother was cruel in naming her, but at least nobody ever forgets her birthday.

Welp - so much for Christmas. Husband is off getting tested for COVID as the nurse from his place of employment sent a text saying he had been exposed recently. He woke up feeling bad.

Just dropped off the gifts and the food at my daughter's house. Maybe next year. *sigh*
