Atheism & the Duggars

Honestly, I doubt this was done in good faith. They’ve been inculcated into these cults (like Vision Forum or the IBLP) rife with sexual abuse where the default response is to blame the victim and maybe send the offender to another church and they only distance themselves from them when the optics become too shit to bother defending them. And, especially given that Jim Bob seems to be running for public office again (at what would seem to be the worst possible time for him, what with the fact that his son appears to have been publicly outed as not only a pedo, but one into the worst of the worst CP), I strongly suspect that when they say they hope the truth comes out, they’re less hoping that they find him guilty and more hoping that some miracle happens where he’s somehow exonerated.

Josh Duggar is staring down 20 years in prison after an Arkansas jury on Thursday found him guilty of receiving and possessing child porn.

Hope he has a lot of fun in prison. Inmates frown on people like him.

Now to wait for what the family has to say to make it seem like the charges are nothing. After all, this is a family who looked away as he molested his younger sisters.

I hope he has an absolutely horrendous time though he will surely be put in protective custody which is more care than the kids got.

In a sane world, this would end Jim Bob's run for state rep.  We don't need another nut in the legislature, though it may be too saturated to matter.  Jim Bob will try to persuade Sarah Sanders, after she becomes Governor, to commute the sentence.

As for the OP, these people try to say the right things.  I have a hard time believing parents raising so many kids across the road from the landfill often do the right things.

You know, given that prisoners just love people convicted of sex offenses, and Josh has been convicted for downloading not just CP, but the worst of the worst of CP, I’d love to see how he does in jail.

Just to clarify, though, he did not create any of the material that he downloaded.  The guy who created one of the movies is serving a life sentence, in the Philippines.  But, yes, JD is a pervert, but, his sexual crimes against victims whom he knows/knew are not the ones that are sending him to prison.  The crime that is sending him to jail is, in essence, a "thought crime".  Yes, it should be illegal, but, I do not believe that a 20-year sentence, which is on par with vehicular homicide, is just for having looked at a series of filthy pixels on one's computer monitor.

Just my 2 cents...

I don't agree. If there's not a market for child porn than there's no reason for it to exist. He is as guilty as whoever took the pics or videos.

He has a proven history of violating minors. 20 years with a bunch of pissed off inmates is mild. My 2 cents.

I might be able to appreciate Jehanne’s argument more (though I would not necessarily agree with it) if not for the fact that, well, this is a man who has admitted, in the past, to molesting five prepubescent girls. At least one of them was less than five years old. With that in mind, it’s not too large a leap to suggest that being caught with CP involving infants implies he’s a dangerous sexual predator.

If he was just a weird man who collects morbid and horrifying videos (the kind that Plagued Moth likes to talk about) and downloaded Daisy’s Destruction just to see if it was as horrifying as everyone claimed it was, this thoughtcrime argument might hold more water. But he’s not, so it doesn’t.

In other words, JD should have been prosecuted long ago; certainly agree with that!

Couldn't even accept and articulate his own guilt. Tried to bullshit people about being framed. That kind of shit doesn't help in sentencing. When a person refuses to accept the culpability for their actions and, instead, waffles on about some ludicrous shit.....wasting the peoples time and insulting the courts purpose... it doesn't inspire confidence that they won't do the same thing again at the very first opportunity. It's actually pretty common for the state to articulate as much in recommendation. Defendants actions after the fact, and all that jazz.

It's actually pretty simple to get the lightest possible sentence in a non production offense if you indicate that you want to seek effective treatment. It's pretty hard to imagine that the way they went was his lawyers idea.

In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!
