Josh Duggar is on trial, of course. As an IT worker with 30 years of experience and a BS in computer science, I would say that he is likely guilty, but, unless physical security of a computer can be maintained at all times, anyone with administrative rights can do pretty much anything that they please whether local or remotely. In any case, the following quotation from the Duggar parents is telling:

"The accusations brought against Joshua today are very serious. It is our prayer that the truth, no matter what it is, will come to light, and that this will all be resolved in a timely manner,"

This is something that could have, in part, come from the mouth of Professor Richard Dawkins.

The truth, no matter what it is... A case of selective reasoning on the part of the Duggars?? Maybe there is some progress here?

Yeah, quite likely, but, as the computer was not secured, anyone with physical access to the box could have created a dual boot OS. With root access and knowledge of Linux, virtually anything is possible after that.

I would not convict if I was in the jury, at least from what I have read in the news.

The defense argues that he was framed. That someone other than him put kiddie pron on his work computer...and this, despite the fact that the prosecution has exhaustive logs of the minute to minute activity of that device, including his sending personal messages from it while he downloaded kiddie pron. Go for broke, I guess.. the one armed man defense worked for harrison ford, eventually.

I guess it comes down to the specifics of the case and the charges made. But aren't there multiple admissions and accusations of Josh molesting girls over the years, including his sisters?

I think that it's hard to ask a jury to believe that they should return with not guilty on the basis of the notion that there may be some shadowy conspiracy against this poor sufferer. Even worse, I think it can backfire horrendously....because..if a jurist doesn't believe that, they now have to contend with the fact that the man whose fate they are deciding just tried to bullshit them in the most juvenile way imaginable. In effect, insulting the jurists.

It cant be anything other than a hail mary...even when or if it's true, when there is a conspiracy.

My OP was directed at the Duggars' at least implicit acknowledgement of the fundamental principle of atheism, namely, our refusal to deny the obvious.
