It's probably because Graham played a part leading up to January 6 insurrection when he illegally tried to pressure GA election officials to toss out votes.

Lindsey and much of those base enough to be Republicans in Congress after 1994, much less 2008, were exactly like that before trump. It is just that before trump they thought it wouldn’t benefit them to show too conspicuously their true selves, until trump showed them just what really would get the votes in an America that could elect a trump. 
Much of the mindless followers are too stupid to know how words work, so the Grahams, and the Greenes, and the Boeberts pepper their speech with frightening, dubious, controversial content to rile up the brain dead zombies.
"Don't politicize ____" is just code for "No fair using this against us!"
Just take a look at the responses to 9/11 or any crime committed by undocumented immigrants. If an undocumented immigrant murders someone, Republicans are duty bound to blame border security on said measure within 5 minutes of the person's death. And in the case of 9/11, well you could basically complete any republican sentence for years with a noun, a verb, and 911. But if you mention that maybe we should have some gun laws, suddenly we need to 'let the bodies get cold' before we talk about that.

It's just cheerleading for the base. The GOP base is the most gullible block of idiots in the world. If Trump shouted that all Democrats are lizards in disguise, they would cheer and scream in delight. No statement is too preposterous for them.

Limit it to the far right GOP and I'd agree. Discounting the moderates and centrists in the GOP only displays your far left wing bias. Victim mentality much?

The far right GOP *is* the base.
For some reason we see far more cheerleading from the far right and its fan base is eager to participate. I don't understand why there's a difference. Other than Bernie's campaign for president, there's not much similar activity that goes on for those on the left. Why is that?
