He didn't understand what was going on? Sounds to me like you are being pretty disrespectful to this man and his intelligence by assuming that. He's not a mentally challenged child, and he confirmed that he could speak English. And I'm pretty sure he knew that he was in the US and was not still in the Congo with Congolese police, unless he was having a PTSD episode.

Intellectually, he might have known that American cops are less bad than Congolese cops, but as someone who deals with anxiety, trauma, and depression, even if you know for a fact that these particular examples are less dangerous than the ones who abused you, it can be hard to shake the association.

If you’re (for example) a woman whose formative years were fraught with abusive men, maybe even to the point where you didn’t even meet one who wasn’t overall negative to you until you were in your teens, and you somehow manage to get a husband/boyfriend/whatever who proves to be the exact opposite of that, it’s not like the fear that he’ll turn out to be just like all the rest of them just goes away.

I understand that may be the case and that could be possible, but this doesn't seem to be a case of an innocent guy with anxiety and trauma fleeing because he was having flashbacks of the Congo. He may not have been the best type of dude. Plus, he was taken in by police before without a fight. This time, he wasn't having that though. And I don't buy for a second that he didn't understand what was going on like Boru says is clear, which is just infantilizing the man. The man had been in the US since 2014. That's 8 years. Plenty of time to learn English, and I'm unsure what Boru thinks the man in the country for 8 years clearly didn't understand? Was it the word car, plates, or wrong? And before someone makes the accusation, no, I'm not saying it's ok that someone was killed because of their criminal record and I know it is not exactly relevant in that sense, but it does speak to what type of a person he was, to a degree at least.

Patrick Lyoya's driver's license was revoked and a warrant was out for his arrest when a Grand Rapids police officer killed him during a traffic stop, state records show.

An arrest warrant was issued out of the City of Wyoming on April 1 in connection to a domestic violence allegation, according to court records.

Much of Lyoya's criminal record is related to traffic offenses, including three convictions for operating under the influence and driving with a revoked license, according to state records.

Lyoya was scheduled to be sentenced in May in connection to the 2021 drunk driving incident. He faced 30 days to five years in jail.

Sure, reasonable people can disagree about which kind of asshole is the worst kind. I tend to appreciate a genuine asshole, myself, but I grew up with em..so I would.

He's being manipulated by himself, at any rate. He habitually seeks out, consumes, and then disseminates white supremacist talking points. I assume there was some point in his life where it was more a case of accidental leakage, but not anymore. Active propaganda works on the disseminator first and foremost - not entirely unlike a daily prayer.

Nudge is of the opinion that being in support of the 1st Amendment is a white supremacist position. Therefore, to Nudge, the majority of Americans are the real problem, because the majority of the country supports freedom of speech being upheld, which according to Nudge's fear mongering, is supposedly going to lead to a white ethnostate in America. I guess we'll have to wait to see if that's going to be happening to the US any time soon, but I somehow doubt that's how things are going to go, but who knows, maybe Nudge is onto something and the sky really is falling and the US is about to turn into the 4th reich.
