As for the graviton, it's a hypothetical particle. If it exists, it must be a spin-2 particle.
One of my physics professors said that is pretty much the only thing we know about gravitons.

-the faithful answer to this...btw, is and has always been diabolical mimicry. This is the idea that the state of evidence remaining to us today is not, truly, of what happened, but the effect of literal demons conspiring with the fabric of reality make the christian shitwads look like they were base lying fucks.

That depends entirely on the type of fundamentalist you’re dealing with though. Sometimes it’s “demonic mimicry” and other times it’s “God put it there to test our faith”. I reject either premise.

As any thinking person should. God could, ofc, have "built" the universe in some entirely rational way, and the evidence of what we see is not just the evidence of what was, but of how god did it.
If you get super ecclectic. How it was done literally is God - that's what we've been trying to communicate and/or explain all this time.

So here's something about the big bang which never made sense to me. So as far as I know a simple explanation of what the BB is would be this, we can observe that the universe is constantly expanding, therefore we can assume that if we go backwards in time then the universe is always shrinking. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong on that point, but that seems to me to be a simple summary of the BB theory.
If that's the case then how is it that, if we reverse time, the sun and earth gradually get closer to each other? If the universe is shrinking then so is the distance between all planets as well, as the stars which they orbit, so wouldn't this mean that earth would be consumed by our massive sun?

No.

The planets and stars within solar systems and galaxies are not currently affected by expansion because at the local level gravity is stronger than the force of expansion.

If the universe is shrinking then so is the distance between all planets as well, as the stars which they orbit, so wouldn't this mean that earth would be consumed by our massive sun? The expansion rate of the universe is known. Take it and calculate for yourself by how much in the past the Sun and Earth could have been closer (leaving all other things like gravity out!). Its really no rocket science.
By how much do you think the distance between Sun and Earth would reduce if we turn back the clock to the formation of earth some 4bny ago?

Briefly, no.
The sun, Earth, and planets in our solar system formed out of gas and dist about 5 billion years ago.
The Big bang occurred about 14 billion years ago.
That is a 9 billion year difference.
there was a whole generation of stars between the BB and the formation of our solar system.

The observable Universe is 14 billion years old but its diameter is 93 billion light years. Go figure:

The big bang theory hey..
Well the universe could be modelled with quantum modelling and could be made to fit in a continuous way but would be off from reality a bit which could be massaged in. Or you could continue to find better concentric circles so to speak until the big bang theory fitted better or we may make some more conclusive discoveries clearing things up a bit in the long term. Therefore there is possibly a fundamental flaw with the scientific method at this level of scientific development. However you look at it you could be left massaging the model skewing away from more intuitive models. Good results may take much more Everett level micro modelling before finding a good optimal fit relative to reality close to plank length that scaled up to a micro/macro level of reality in tune with our own. The decisiveness in comparative methods used within such parallel microverse modelling may have less of a clear winner and a more intelligently rated approach. This is where the scientific model needs to move forward with such issues it will need to be more concise and even less driven by first past the post thinking in order to hit a sweet spot in terms of understanding the science of reality.
Doing this kind of study should come with a warning that many broken models and egos pave this path of scientific pursuit. It's best to know that you want to know more than to think you can replace 42 with anything relevant to science.
In short no one really knows quite how it all fits and progress will take time here.
