Not surprised. Manchin knows WV has a very anti-abortion electorate. He knows a vote for codification will hurt his 2024 bid. His favorability ratings in WV after all his recent shenanigans have gone UP majorly in the state.
It’s extremely frustrating. Trouble is, it doesn't have a very anti-abortion electorate. That's why they had to reduce abortion access by reducing the number of physical clinics through lawfare.
That's the infuriating bit. West Virginians have abortions, they fucking -love- havin them some abortions. It's just that dems don't actually want to run on abortion, in wv or anywhere else. That's for the primaries, not the general. The pojnt of being pro choice - politically, as a dem in primaries..is as a trade for some bit of corporatist arglebargle. Hi, I'm, Bill. Vote for me if because I believe in a womans right to choose (but not her service provider).

The article I read that showed polling data on the issue per state shaded in via colors must have been based on bad polling in that case. And I can’t remember the article to reference it. Alas. I’d look on Pew but I don’t know if they have state based polling?

Ah, let's say that Manchin was on their side and Dems pulled through the bill guaranteeing abortion access, it would probably be a very temporary victory considering how polarized (or should I say insane) Republicans are towards it. So the very next time Republicans got the majority they would just overturn it.

And yet if he tries to run again, he'll lose very badly in the primaries. Democratic and independent voter in West Virginia have lost all trust in that traitor party member.

With the possible reversal of Roe v Wade on the horizon, now there's a baby formula shortage in the US. I suppose the next thing will be that women must breastfeed, even if they can't.

In fairness, breastfeeding is generally considered the best possible option for feeding babies, assuming, of course, that the mother can actually do it.

I'm aware.
I was unable to feed my oldest because of being on antibiotics that would pass to the baby.
Same baby, grew up and had a baby. Post-delivery complications and an emergency surgery impeded her ability to breast feed...though she tried, she couldn't.

It's difficult to be a witness to breastfeeding issues, in my experience. Something about it is taken to be a test of natural or native motherhood and any difficulty, let alone failure, profoundly internalized. When we were still working it out the first time..and things weren't going well, I used to try to lighten The Wife's mood by mentioning that I...too...had difficulty breastfeeeding our children.
They're all bigger now, but I still tell that joke, and she still laughs.
