Another SCOTUS ruling that is also very scary.

RE: Another SCOTUS ruling that is also very scary.
LOL, yeah, I know you're not a ghoul. The abortion decision doesn't change anything on the ground either, though. Here in Kentucky, before this ruling, 82% of the women of the state had no access to providers because they didn't live in Louisville, which is right on the border to Indiana, where abortion was (and still is..for now) legal. The provider (mostly just one but for the last few years two) in Louisville was constantly pestered with challenges to it's operation even when it was nominally legal - which meant that it mostly failed to provide services to the people who could make it there or did live there. It's as much codifying a state of affairs already present on the ground as the miranda decision does with regards to malfeasance by law enforcement...also a notable problem in Louisville.

IMO, the nuts have already remade the country with end runs around the law, and now seek to use the effect of those end runs as precedent for changing the law to accord with that state of affairs. This is how they rule from the bench, just as it's how they tried to coup from the ground. They think it's brilliant.

RE: Another SCOTUS ruling that is also very scary.
And yet ANOTHER theocratic fucked up ruling. It is now legal for PUBLIC SCHOOL EMPLOYEES, SUCH AS COACHES to hijack a school event and force anyone who wants to attend to listen to a prayer of a religion they may not support. This is yet another erosion of the Wall Jefferson rightfully argued for. The assholes on that court think they are expanding religious freedom, but they are actually doing the opposite. They are ignoring the separation of church and state and doing exactly what the First Amendment forbids. The First Amendment DOES protect religious freedom, but it does not protect setting up social pecking orders favoring one religion over another.

The problem with this ruling, is that if a player or coach or school student in the stands says they want to do the same thing representing a different religion, these fucking assholes would suddenly say it does violate the separation of church and state.

They do not want religious freedom, they want to be free to be the top of the social pecking order, and they want the federal government to codify that social pecking order.

There are 360,000 houses of worship of all denominations and every major religion on private property and still in view of public roads. They already have the ability to advertise their religions on social media too. They do not need to pee on every damned government bush like a lion marking it's territory.

Jefferson's Virginia Religious Freedom act basically said nobody can be forced to support a religion, and to me, that also means monopolizing a venue. Madison's final version of the First Amendment was modeled after that principle. You add to those things the oath of office and the Barbary Treaty article 11, and the fact that out of the 4,440 words in that Constitution, none of them are "Jesus" "Bible" or "Christian". It is very clear that the founders did not want the federal government or the state to set up a social pecking order based on a religious label.

I didn't start a new thread because these 4 big rulings are simply part of a long term push by the religious right to justify dominance over law. These 4 major rulings ARE a result of religious nutjobs sitting on our court. When we get falsely accused of wanting a godless society while they keep shouting "God, guns and bibles" they prove over and over that they do want a Christian fascist authoritarian government.

They knew better from recent experience, and, fwiw..it sortof looks like we (as a species) have to relearn these things everytime the last person who lived through them finally kicks it.

So Supreme Court votes that a supposedly voluntary but actually semi-mandatory prayer at football games is not only constitutional, but also protected speech that must be allowed.
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

I wonder if it will remain semi-mandatory-voluntary if (when?) the Satanic Temple offers to give the invocation?

The satanic temple needs to get into the private school business. They could make a killing.

At any impromptu public prayers, start booing; let's see if the Supreme Court rules such to be a 1st Ammendment right?!

Well, I guess it's time my cheerleaders start praying to Satan before every game. I'm sure the Christian folks will appreciate it.
The whole tone of Church teaching in regard to woman is, to the last degree, contemptuous and degrading. - Elizabeth Cady Stanton
