Raising taxes on the rich to 1950s levels and taxing the churches would fix the deficit.
I notice you just post this bullshit.
Do you think you're being edgy?
Europe has high welfare spending and low GDP growth rate. China has low welfare spending and high GDP growth rate.
Chile has low welfare spending too.

I'm reminded of a point about altruism, that while atheists tend to give less to charity than the religious, that does not mean they are less charitable -- they simply prefer to institutionalize their charity through taxes and social safety nets created with those taxes. At the same time, you can't simply ceteris paribus compare nations with more extensive social safety nets and official GDP because the wealth that the citizenry of such nations enjoy is not included in the standard measure of GDP, and yet it is a form of wealth nonetheless.

I don't know much about Chile but isn't it the most advanced economy in Latin America?

GDP growth rates alone are not the sole indicator of a good economy and as i said China,s economy is slowing and it had to essentially burn itself out to get were it is. A reckless policy of growth at any cost is not sustainable nor good long term economics, And it's lack of a safety net is starting to bite it in the back side as pressing domestic issues crop up China has been trying to ignore.

I think it's conceivable that a country which embarks on policies it's citizens approve of may not be the undisputed king of gdp growth. I can easily see how countries can reject popular sentiment -in favor- of goosing their gdp. I don't think that any ideological or policy disagreements between people can be hashed out by merely point at whatever countries have done whichever things.
Some country may, after all, achieve the thing x we want (any of us want, anywhere) -by- doing the thing y that none of us (any of us, anywhere) would do. It goes without saying that reich wing desires for the item x do not extend to endorsing means y for simply having effected them in a particular scenario. I could for example, nearly eliminate all welfare spending in the us by killing all of Teh Whites.
Somehow...I doubt that Teh Whites would endorse this method of deficit reduction, no matter how geeked out about "deficit reduction" they are.

Europe has high welfare spending and low GDP growth rate. China has low welfare spending and high GDP growth rate.
And yet, quality of life in Europe is generally higher that the quality of life in China.

Another GOP scam exposed
Quote:Homeless men recruited for veteran hotel scam
Seven homeless men have come forward to say they were part of a group of men recruited at a Poughkeepsie homeless shelter to act as veterans that had been displaced from a Newburgh hotel in order for a non-profit organization to perpetrate a fraud on the public.
The men told Mid-Hudson News on Thursday night that they were part of a group of 15 men that were supposed to pretend they were veterans that had been kicked out of the Crossroads Hotel in the Town of Newburgh last Friday, in advance of the arrival of migrants brought up from New York City.
The saga of the displaced veterans received national attention when Assemblyman Brian Maher stepped in to denounce the hotel’s actions and grabbed headlines along with an appearance on a conservative tv network to raise money for the YIT Foundation, which claims had housed the homeless veterans at the hotel.

teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

Samuel Clemens said, “There is no distinctly native American criminal class except Congress.” It's leaning a lot heavier to the GOP side, these days.

Plus, maintaining a GDP growth rate that's too large for too long is a recipe for a recession or depression (not to mention hyperinflation), especially for developed nations. Maybe things might be different for a developing nation, but once they catch up with The West, maintaining such a high rate of growth will end up biting them in the ass.
