This former CTT1 from Reagan's Navy offers a sharp salute.

Had to go look that up, I've never seen that rating. I worked in the engine room of three different Navy ships.

Our spaces were decidedly cooler than broadway.

I look forward to the day, not likely in my lifetime, when there is no need to celebrate Veterans Day because there is no need for the soldier beyond boot camp training.

There will always be a need, even if it's only to stand between people and those who would otherwise do them harm, to go halfway across the world and dig wells, lay bricks for schools - the best detail a soldier can ever pull in the draw of the hat.

I look forward to the day that a soldiers job is perceived to be the unyielding defense of the entire human race. As opposed to killing the enemy. What enemy? Those are your friends over there on the other ridgeline. They like what you like and do what you do. They came from the same kind of towns and are used by the same kinds of people with the same kind of indifference and callousness. You'd never have a better buddy.

Love you guys, but you know that.

They say there are no atheists in foxholes, but there are only atheists in foxholes. If God wants you dead a foxhole won't help you stay alive. If God wants you alive a foxhole is redundant. So everyone who is in a foxhole is there because they don't believe there's a God who can carry out his will, foxhole notwithstanding.

E-5 was the sweet spot.  didn't have to babysit anyone, didn't have to get on work parties.  Just worked on your gear.

There's a wall of pictures at work dedicated to the veteran residents in the facility. Last weekend I noticed that section of the wall was empty. I wonder if they were just updating the wall for today.
