Fuxxake, it was a play on words about him having a stoke.

I hate his guts (especially, his unmerciful execution spree), but, I would not wish upon him or any other human being that they suffer a stroke.

OK.

I would. Gets rid of him without harming anyone else, spares the country the worst of his demagoguery, and decapitates the inbred group of mental munchkins who support him. What's not to like?

I don't doubt that Trump still has a following, but I've been reading from various news sources, that the majority of Repubs want a new look, new message, new person entirely. I think DeSantis will be their nominee because he seems to be the only one that is gaining some momentum on the Repub front.

I'm still waiting for an Independent to rise up ... it may take a while, but I think many have grown weary of this two-party monopoly.

If they want new stuff, Desantis aint their man. He makes it a point to imitate the traitor in chief. Truth is, they want the same stuff - more and harder next time, and they think that the only problem last time was the particular salesman.

They just can't accept the fact that the majority of people think they're assholes - even as they wring their hands about the great replacement. A testament to our ability to hold two antithetical ideas simultaneously and uncritically. As it stands, while many people may have grown weary of a two party monopoly, more people are perfectly fine with a single party government - a dem government. Now, I don't think this is because the dems have earned it - more that the governing philosophy of the right has become the notion that there shouldn't even be government, and certainly not a representative government. Post truth, post policy, post process.

What I see, as a non participator, is one group of right leaning incompetents trying and frequently stumbling in their attempt to govern, and another set of full on reich wing nuts setting fire to the buildings to cover the fact that they've stolen everything that wasn't nailed down. You have to wonder where an independent party would or could position itself, there. Between incompetence and arson/theft? Between right leaning and reich wing?

I'm hoping that enough dems get elected that the further left has a fighting chance. I think it may gravitate that way with the newer gen voting to left (such as it is).

I don't think the majority of Americans believe Repubs to be 'assholes', to be honest. If we look at this recent mid-term election, there were a lot of close calls, even in Democratic-won states. Seems like the country is quite divided right down the middle, and it's really hard to say what the 2024 election will look like.

I'd say the majority of Americans hate Trump, and many Repubs look to be distancing themselves from him.

I'm not sure what an Independent could do to pave the way, but even a Libertarian would be refreshing. I'm not sure if any other party would be 'better,' but it might shake things up and sometimes, that's needed for mindsets to change.

I'm wary of polls indicating DeSantis in the ascendant, as they tend to be representative of the general populace while the elites that gatekeep the primary process are not. The second is that it's asking the wrong question in a lot of ways. A lot of people, especially non-elites, may have a more favorable view of DeSantis, but his political utility will be the critical question for the purposes at issue. A readymade rabid fan base of Trump cultists is a lot easier to predict and profitably use than a loose coalition of generic conservatives.

That's the kernel of truth to their heavy breathing about white genocide. Left leaning parties are now, and are increasingly, the only demographically viable parties in the us (been that way for three decades, actually). Nothing short of a full on coup and dictatorship can stop this, all of the antidemocratic bullshit in the world can only buy time between today and the inevitable end. A literal end, for some people whose identity is bound up in ideologies their own children have abandoned. An independant party seen as a "moderate" party would suffer the same fate. It would merely be a replacement for the current gop - which decided to turn itself into the fucking klan for some godforsaken reason - leading us right back round to two party rule with the nuts screaming rahowa outside the tent.
