As these people are enemies of the divine, they are also enemies of justice, love, spirtuality and religiosity, and as such it is our duty to destroy them (intellectually) and/or bring them back to the right path.

It's time to eradicate this abnormality, once and for all. I'm here to fulfill this task.

You sir/madam are what is wrong with Christianity.  You sound like a Pharisee that Jesus denounced as a brood of vipers.  Shame on you.

Rest easy, the OP does not claim to be a Christian, nor do they consider the Bible authoritative.

So, they aren't really what is wrong with Christianity, they are what is wrong with theism in general.

What, IMO is wrong with Christianity, is that Christians seem to want to inflict their unsupported, unevidenced beliefs, on other people.

Another problem with Christianity is, if it was actually true, is that the Christian god (according to some interpretations), inflicts infinite punishment for finite thought crimes.

You'd believe if you just opened your heart" is a terrible argument for religion. It's basically saying, "If you bias yourself enough, you can convince yourself that this is true." If religion were true, people wouldn't need faith to believe it -- it would be supported by good evidence.

Not believing in God is much more than a thought, because it has a long list of practical, real consequences. Atheists generally say that they live as though God doesn't exist, this looks like a serious commitment to live life in a particular way.

Can you choose not to believe whatever you believe? If not, why do you believe that an atheist, or anyone else for that matter, could?

I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

I get your point. All I'm saying is that people are naturally inclined to believe in a caring being. It shouldn't be difficult for an atheist to "nourish" this inclination.

People are naturally inclined to believe many things, e.g. cognitive biases, which don't reflect reality. What people are naturally inclined to do tells us nothing about its truth content.

I think there can be a natural tendency to believe in superstition for instance, since we're so adept at perceiving coincidences and seeking meaning in them, as well as a natural tendency to see agency in things. Put the two together and it's not surprising to me, that and how, religion/spiritualism develops over time in our history, from primitive times to the present, but where some see that as a feature, others, like me, see it as a bug.

Were gamers. Were gaming out reality at every moment. Looking for an angle. Looking for something to negotiate. Serves us well..except when there's nothing to negotiate with. Then we're sitting there with our thumbs in our asses talking about thoughts and prayers.
