I think if I was going to kill someone at a distance, I wouldn't use a firearm. I feel that a flamethrower would do the job and give me more satisfaction.

Surely a FLAMEthrower must be a FIRE arm... the clue is in the name! Huh

You'd think that but no, at least not in the USA.  See section (3) at: https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/18/921

(This is the same definition that was on the ATF website according to my search, but that took too long to load.)

You sure about wanting to own nukes? Because even a relatively small nuke is enough to destroy a reasonably large city (and I know this because we did it TWICE in August 1945.) Even the Davy Crockett (the smallest nuke ever) has a blast radius so big that it doesn’t even seem practical for any sane civilian use. Unless, of course, you think it’s a good idea to give any living thing within a quarter mile of ground zero a fatal dose of radiation poisoning, which seems to be a bit overkill to me.

As a Libertarian no, if the government can own it so should you (but I admit I'm in the minority here.) But it depends on what you want restricted.  I'd love to own tanks/nukes, but I admit maybe not everyone should as not everyone can be responsible.  At the same time not everyone is a responsible driver but we don't ban cars (though they're more of a necessity so they get a pass apparently.)

Also, I'd argue that if a non-violent felon has paid their debt to society, they should get to own guns and vote again.  This eternal punishment thing is crap as it leaves no path to true redemption.

Armed minorities are harder to oppress for sure.  I say that if more women were armed less rapes would happen.  The only thing is that there has to be that conviction to take a life to save yourself, which isn't easy for some people.

Yes, we don't have enough of them Tongue

But all kidding aside, it's not a gun problem but one about mental health and education on both the safe use and storage of firearms and a respect for human life.  I firmly believe that if we had those two things in place there would be a lot less death.

Okay I'll admit I'm not that into long guns (though I'm obviously not against them.) Also there really is no bad round as there's a good use case for most of them.  Most of my family who hunts likes 30 06 though so I'm going with that.

Very!  I mean I'm not going to litter the forum with gun stuff but if it comes up I'll put in my .02.  I'm also aware that it won't make me many friends as there are a lot of atheists who lean left.  I expect I'll probably make about as many friends though as when I post on the gun forums about atheism (maybe a bit more because some over there can be a bit nuts.)

There are many reasons to own a firearm, from hunting to self defense to just having fun at the range.  I hope to never have to use mine to defend myself but the option is there and I'm glad that it is.

As far as flamethrowers go they are impractical as they're usually large and bulky.  However a lighter and some Aqua Net works in a pinch I guess.  Also, fun fact that flamethrowers are less regulated than firearms in most of the USA.  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Regulation...ted_States

the government can and does own nuclear weapons.  I assume you must agree that i should also be able to own these as well?

Boooo!...the 270 has been demonstratively and conclusively shown to cut through wind resistance at ridge to ridge range and deliver a more accurate shot and cleaner kill than the 30 06.  O6 lovers are just wedded to their affinity for antique firearms and the subsequent torture any animal they accidentally manage to hit might cause.

I'm just fucking with you bro. Obviously, the 06 hits like a truck so if I wanted to kill an animal point blank execution style I'd pick that. The 270 is a scalpel. Im with you on the nukes though. If uncle sam can have a nuke, where the fuck is mine...? In case I need it to stop uncle sam from tyrannies and suchlike. Can't say I agree on rape. If more women were armed exactly as many rapes would occur, just more gun deaths.

Yeah, the flamethrower thing was a joke. To be clear, I’m not anti-gun (not exactly pro-gun, either). I’m fortunate to live in a country that manages to combine a high rate of gun ownership with fairly extensive gun regulation and a low rate of violent crimes.

That seems a little impersonal. Plus, you miss out on seeing a person you hate enough to kill being set on fire. Lagniappe.

That's a sacrifice the 50 cal operator is willing to make.

I’d like to think if I was going to end someone, I’d want it to be for highly personal reasons.
