Older adults in particular need upwards of 1.5g of high biological value protein per kilo of body weight per day in order to prevent LBM catabolism. That’s pretty difficult to achieve when all you’re eating for weeks at a time is potatoes.

I believe he said he is eating normally two days per week, but don't quote me on that.

So, it’s impossible for him to meet the recommendations for someone in his age group, and with his current co-morbidities and medical conditions. Very irresponsible of his physician as far as I’m concerned.

From what I understand, getting in shape (being normal weight) is all about not eating junk. So it is a mental fight, like staying away from booze and drugs.

There is no special diet out there, but just staying away from donuts, cakes, bacon, bread, candy, red meat, sugary drinks, pork, and pizza. And some people just can not do it.

I'm trying the potato diet because I've seen videos about it on YouTube. All I can say is that it's worked okay for me, so far. To date, I've lost 18 pounds. I'll weigh myself again next Friday or Saturday.

I ate the last of my boiled Russet Potatoes yesterday. I'm cooking another batch this morning. It's a bit of a hassle without my houseboy here because I can only move about the kitchen using a cane. I have to transfer the potatoes to the stew pot, after cleaning, with only one hand. Then I have to fill the pot with water the same way. I guess, beside dieting, I'm getting a bit of exercise.  Hungry

I eliminated as much added sugars as I could, dialed back my carbs, and have lost almost 70 lbs and reversed a pre-diabetic diagnosis all while eating a varied, tasty, and healthy diet with maybe too much meat, all in just over a year.

You are correct. I'll be eating two regular meals, with moderation, today. I'm having a regular meal for lunch tomorrow and I'll be back to eating potatoes tomorrow evening. I'll weigh myself again on Monday or Tuesday.

RE: Potato Diet
I'm down to 314 lbs. as of this morning. I have another batch of potatoes on the stove as I speak. My stewpot can hold about 7-8 lbs. of spuds at a time.  Hungry

RE: Potato Diet
A friend of mine suggested I try Idaho Potatoes, so I added them to next week's grocery list.  Hungry
